Break from chemo

I had my pre chemo oncologist appointment today. He wants me to take a break from chemo to give my body a a chance to recover and go back to see him in 6 weeks. I’ve had 3 rounds of chemo gem/carbo but missed 2 of gem on its own. Scan showed some reduction and stable disease. But I’ve been admitted to hospital 3 times with unknown source infection, found blood clots on the lungs, had blood transfusions, covid twice, strangulated bowel cos of hernia. Just would like a bit of positivity from people who understand xx

Oh Purplerose you have really been through the mill. It sounds like a break from chemo is just what is needed. I am struggling with the after effects of chemo from last week and when at my lowest wonder if it is worth going through this pain. But when I am more lucid I know that it is. Stay strong and try and make the best of a break from your treatment. You can get through this. My love and prayers go out to you xx

Wow. You have been through so much awfulness! A break sounds like what you need. I hope you feel well enough to have some treats. Xx

I think it sounds as if you have an oncologist who is caring for you knowing all that your body has been through, which is a great deal. We are basically having poison put into our bodies to fight the c but it does have side effects that we need to then deal with. Your body needs to be well to be able to deal with the chemo.

I too am on a break at the moment. My last was on 30th October. My oncologist wanted me to have a break and he has monitored me. I see him this Thurs.

it’s been a relief not to feel sick, tired, and so on but at the same time am scared not to have it. Am sure though our oncologists are doing their very best for us.

Am sending you lots of love xxx

Sounds like you need the break. If you feel well enough, have a little outing (or two) with someone you love; if not, stay at home in the warm and eat something you particularly enjoy, read a favourite book, watch a favourite film, snuggle with a pet - anything that just makes you feel better. Sending hugs!

Carbo/Gem was rough but it did help my numbers. A break from chemo is probably best if doc says. Best of luck! ❤️🙏

Hello purple rose. I am interested in your hernia situation. I have developed a hernia after debulking. It causes no pain but I look a bit pregnant. How long did you stay in hospital when it strangulation? Just curious.

I was in 9 days. They put me nil by mouth for about 30 hours, now I’m on a soft food diet which seems to be helping I also take laxatives everyday.
