I asked a few days ago if anyone knew what DDS was. No one seemed to know, not even McMillan. I finally got an answer from oncologist secretary (oncologist on holiday). Turns out it’s delayed debulking surgery. Wasn’t eligible for IDS. So there’s still a possibility of surgery if disease has shrunk significantly after my 6th cycle, which is on the 22nd. Scan on 25th. Feel a bit better thst surgery hasn’t been ruled out altogether.

Hi there, I was diagnosed with 4b ovarian cancer in December 22 and disease was found in both lobes of my liver and lymph nodes. Surgeon and oncologist ruled out debulking surgery. But after 3 rounds of chemo there had been good response and after 5 rounds they agreed to surgery...so I had DDS 10 days before my son's wedding...and managed to attend wedding in wheelchair, surgical stocking and wig! I should say my oncologist was lukewarm about the op though. He's putting his faith in Olaparib, which I started yesterday. Good luck either your scan, I hope it's good news!
Hi PippaRory. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and I’m sorry that you’ve been, and are going this awful time with OC. Good luck with Olaparib, i hope that you get good results from it. I know that’s on the cards for me at some point. It sounds like you recovered well from surgery. Fantastic that you managed your son’s wedding too. Hope you had a fabulous day. Why was your surgeon lukewarm about surgery and did you achieve NED? Wishing you well for the future.
Hi there, interesting reading Towergirl's reply, my oncologist said the same, surgery couldn't remove all cancer but olaparib will keep those cells at bay with or without surgery. The surgeons were much more enthusiastic and thry persuaded me to go ahead. I was fortunate that surgery went well, no complications. I was NED and my ca 125 remains low and stable. People seem very enthusiastic about olaparib so fingers crossed! Hope your decision is straightforward.
hi. Looks like I might have some big decisions to make. How do we know which way to go? I guess all we can do is put our trust in our teams. Brilliant that you’re NED after surgery PippaRory. The decision was right for you 🙂 Long may it continue x
hi Beaver54, I’ve been in the same position as you this year. Mine was my first recurrence in liver and around spleen. I was offered debunk surgery and splenectomy but surgeon I saw wasn’t giving me confidence at a 10 hour operation with risks. My oncologist wasn’t keen as he didn’t think al would be removed and as caught early plus I responded to chemo well. I’m now 75 and rejected surgery 6 cycles of chemotherapy now on Olaparib 3rd month (BRACA2).
Waiting for CT scan results (Tues) to see if tablets working. Chemotherapy was NED in liver but very small left on spleen.
Hi Towergirl.. thank you for your reply. It’s a minefield that’s for sure and nothing is straightforward. I’ve just got to be patient and wait to see what the scan reveals. Good luck for Tuesday 🙏🏻I hope results are positive. It sounds like your decision was right for you too. I guess I’ll know when the time comes for me to make a decision. I will probably go down the second opinion route as well. Hugs back 🤗 xx
