Has anyone had cataract surgery while on Niraparib. I am not sure if I have to put my medication on hold if I do the surgery. Thanks for your help

Hi there, You should speak to your team before embarking on this. When I was on a parp, I was told, when I needed an urgent dental appointment to come off the parp a couple of days either side of treatment . I would definitely check first. Take care.

Hello Tealgirl17, I had lens replacement surgery both eyes while on Olaparib, I did not stop taking it.

My oncologist recommended a blood test 24 hrs before just to check my levels were ok. My ophthalmologist said he operates on people with lowered immunity all the time!

It was fine xx

I am on Niraparib and had to come off it whilst I had surgery for my back. I would definitely talk to your oncology team and get their advice. Take care

Hi Tealgirl 7

I had cataract surgery about 8 weeks ago to my right eye, now waiting for left eye to be done. asked me if I was on medication and I told them I have been taking Olaparib.

The surgery went ahead .I didn't even think to ask the Oncology team about it .Everything seems fine though. Not sure about the medication you ae taking. However mine is a PARP inhibitor and I have been taking it for 3 years.

Hi Tealgirl7,

Thank you for posting your question here. As our members have suggested, we would advise talking to your clinical team about your upcoming cataract surgery. They will be able to advise around whether or not your niraparib will need to be put on hold.

I hope the surgery goes well for you. If you have any further questions or would like to talk through anything, do feel free to call our friendly support line on 0800 008 7054 or you can reach us via email: support@ovacome.org.uk.

Best wishes,
