Niraparib and vaccinations

Hello everyone. I’m on Niraparib 200mg a day. I’ve got a flu vaccination booked for this Saturday and a Covid vaccination booked for Monday. I’m now a bit unsure if I should have them this close together or leave a gap in between each. Has anyone got experience with this? ☺️

I would definitely talk to my team about that. I asked yesterday if I could have the covid vaccine and it was accepted. I am also on Niraparib and avastin combined. It is a new study.

hi Tealgirl7, yes apparently I can have them close together but have postponed the flu vaccination for 2 weeks just to be sure. How are you feeling on Niraparib and avastin together? . ☺️

I am back on the parp which I was on before. I have just had one treatment of avastin so far. I sometimes feel a little off with the parp for sure but no worse than I did before. My blood work was normal one week later. I go for another treatment in 2 weeks so I will let you know how it's going.. thanks for the information about the vaccine

That’s great it hasn’t affected you too much, there seem to be studies all the time with new drug development and combinations, it gives us all hope for the future . ☺️

We all react differently so it is hard to advise but last October I was given the Covid booster and flu vaccine on the same day, one in each arm, and was taking 200mg Niraparib daily at the time. My neutrophils dropped dramatically and despite a hospital visit and treatment, I developed a painful boil and mouth ulcers as well as feeling pretty ill for a while. It took several months and two cycles of heavy duty antibiotics to sort out the boil. I found some online US research which suggests this can happen but it does not seem to be accepted wisdom and to be fair the Niraparib was pretty hard on my neutrophils even without the vaccines.

Hi Alice77

Thankyou for your reply, sorry to hear you had such a bad experience, it just shows you what can happen, I just got a message this morning from the Gp to say it’s fine to have them close together but as you say you never know what can happen. I had the Covid jab yesterday and had already postponed my flu jab for 2 weeks. Hope you are well and coping with the Niraparib, I started taking it in February and had several side effects but in the last month they have faded and my energy has suddenly come back ☺️Xx
