Diabetes ?

Just had phone consult, on my monthly blood results there is a reference to diabetes! As far as I know I dont have diabetes although Ive never been tested for it! Consultant wondered if it was a mistake, should I try and get an appointment with my GP. Is there a special blood test for diabetes?

My CA125 is up a couple of points, which worries me as it been stable for over a year. Would my flu jab cause it to rise ?

Thought I would have my mind set to rest with this consult but Im more worried now!

Hi Rosebine 2

I don’t know the answer really but I did get pregnancy diabetes years ago and seem to recall it was resolved with diet. So perhaps you were borderline for something on the bt? Certainly worth asking your GP what’s going on. But honestly don’t worry too much, we have bigger fish to fry xx

HI Rosebine

My glucose is a bit higher when I get my checkup and CA125 because it’s not fasting also an A1C blood test is much more accurate to determine actual blood sugar levels did they tell you what your number was? I know a Covid jab can affect the CA125 not sure of a flu shot a good question to ask

Hi Rosebine. Do you know what your glucose level was on the blood tests? I’m in the States and some of the blood numbers seem different but here 100 is the top normal number. But as Saintgermain said the A12 test is more specific. However who put down in the notes that you were diabetic and why. I see you have some kidney condition. Someone may have inferred diabetes from that. But you’d have to have a serious work up to diagnose diabetes. I would definitely follow up with your gp and find out what’s going on. It’s not something to ignore. Xx

Yes Im trying to get a GP appointment , no luck so far. According to the blood forms they werent asked to do a blood glucose test !

The person I spoke to had a very strong accent and I had trouble understanding what she said, but I could pick out the word diabetes. Oh for face to face appointments so you can sort of lip read

Hi Rosebine, When they run my blood tests and CA 125 here in the states, they are never fasting. Sometimes as part of it they run a glucose test. Therefore, depending on what I ate and drank for breakfast, my number can be over 100. I recall it being 108 one time. When I happen to not have eaten yet that morning, it is under 100. That is the number they use here to determine if further investigation is needed. I would just request a fasting blood test either from your GP or the next time you have your oncologist run your tests. Run with the proper pre-conditions, it should turn out to be a non-issue. Best of luck.

HI Rosebine. I'm in Oz & don't have to fast for my 3 weekly blood test. As far as I know, you would have to be specifically tested for diabetes. I've had part of my pancreas removed & was told that diabetes can be a side effect of that but I don't know what the symptoms of it are. Both my sisters have it so probably on the cards for me anyway. Yes follow up with your medical team & get treatment if required. Sometimes it can be controlled with a diet change. Good luck. Love & hugs. Irene

Hi there. I honestly wouldn’t be too worried about diabetes at this stage- if they just checked your glucose it would depend whether you had fasted or not. Your GP should request a blood test called HbA1c which is more accurate for adult type diabetes. It should really be checked yearly after a certain age in any case. Only when you have that result can the GP then make any diagnosis.

Hope it gets sorted and you get some answers soon. 😊

Nurses at oncology said not to worry they couldnt find anything on my notes that said Diabetes! Im still worried about my CA125 though and the next lot could possibly be up even innocently because Im having some work done on my teeth and gums two days before !
