At present I have finished chemo but my magnesium is still low varies between 4.1 and 4.7 unable to take tablets or sachets and until recently fine on infusions weekly

I have had side effects upset tummy and nausea and cramping in tummy usually lasts 24 hrs and all is good

This time its been 3 days barely eaten or had anything to drink due to nausea and stomach cramps are horrendous though bowels are fine

Has anyone else had this problem that can give me some ideas. Going to see if I can get drs app in the morning x

I was threatened with infusions but luckily avoided them. I did have the sachets for a while and they were disgusting…not surprised your tummy is protesting.

I hope the Doc can throw some light…maybe you are allergic to something in the infusion? xx

I would try long daily relaxing soaks in Epsom salts, you can absorb magnesium through the skin.

I have my magnesium infusions before the chemo starts usually one hour drip time this last time had to have two bags. I am third line cisplatin and gemzar. the second bag was precautionary as they know magnesium depletion is an issue with the above. Never had any real issues with it only the nausea with the cisplatin. Hope they can resolve for you!

I have been having 2 magnesium infusions a week plus oral tablets and this has raised my level to around .5 .My kidneys were damaged by frontline chemo- which didn’t work at all- and my trial tablets cause further loss. It costs me £100.00 per week in hospital transport- unaffordable but will be screaming in pain if I don’t go.

Hi Tezzaa66

Thank you for your post. I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve had such a difficult few days with nausea and stomach cramps. I can see that some forum members have shared their experiences with low magnesium and magnesium infusions which I hope has been helpful.

I just wanted to check in and see how you got on with getting a doctor's appointment today. We’re aware that sometimes it can be difficult to speak directly with the GP and wanted to encourage you to speak with a member of your clinical team if you haven’t been able to get any help with this yet. Your clinical nurse specialist or the 24/7 chemotherapy helpline number should be able to offer some personalised guidance in relation to your own individual circumstances, and may be able to suggest some ways to alleviate the symptoms you’ve been experiencing.

The Ovacome support team are here for you if you would like to talk through anything or if there’s any questions we can help with. Please don’t hesitate to call our support line on 0800 008 7054, email us via support@ovacome.org.uk or message us directly through this forum. We’re here Monday – Friday, 10am – 5pm.

I hope you feel much better soon.

Best wishes
