Cyst on remaining ovary

Good morning ladies

I hope everyone is well. My Daughter (31) was diagnosed in January with stage 1a mucinous ovarian cancer after having an 18 pound cyst removed. She has just had an internal ultrasound today - 6 months after her op and on the remaining ovary they have found a 3cm cyst, they have said ‘not to worry, come back in 6 weeks’ of course she is beside herself with worry, as am I. She is due to be a bridesmaid tomorrow at her best friends wedding and just feels broken.

I am sure it is a simple benign cyst and I am asking if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Many thanks

Hi I can’t help with specifics because mucinous OC is so rare, but I recommend calling the Ovacom helpline for advice. I know she wants to do something now but six weeks isn’t that long. In the meanwhile see about a second opinion and possibly trials.

Hi Mellucy , I’m so sorry to hear your daughter has had this news…i am thinking of her and really hoping it’s not the cancer. I am 31 and was diagnosed the same as your daughter in March (cyst removed end of January) if your daughter would like to get in contact and we can chat it might help us both on our journey as I understand the stress and pain it’s causing us both.

Sorry to hear your daughter has had a setback Mellucy. Sending love and prayers to you both.

I am stage 1c2 MOC and have had two surgeries since Christmas. An emergency one to remove a ruptured 20cm tumour, tube and appendix then, two months later completion surgery. I'm now 3 of 6 chemo's down.

I had a benign cyst on my right ovary 11 years ago which was removed by keyhole with no further treatment. My MOC mass grew on the same ovary but there has been no talk of any link between the two.

Happy to answer any questions that might be useful. Please DM if you think it would help.

Liss

Hello,

First of all I what to say that I am pretty sorry for your daughter.

I am not a doctor and I have no intention to alarm you. But I feel the need to share you my story:

march 2018 ( i was 28 years old ) - on a routine check up my gynecologyst has noticed a huge cyst on my left ovary - around 21 cm ; a few days later I had a laparocsopic surgery to remove just the tumour - borderline mucinous ovarian tumour ; only a half of my left ovary was removed

they suggested that I should have a baby soon

march 2019 - I had a C section and a healthy boy ; my ovaries were working fine but I was still going for a check up every 3 month

october & december 2019 - my doctor said the left ovary was not looking so good - it had a lot of micro cysts ( less then 3 cm); i was breast feading my son all the time

may 2020 - my doctor had noticed a 4-5 cm cyst on the left ovary but said it was looking like a folicular one; gave my progesteron and asked me to return after 2 months

2 weeks later I arrived at the ER due to a cyst rupture ; they have noticed that the cyst was already 8-10 cm; gave me some medicines for the pain and ask me to return after 2 weeks - everything looked fine the cyst was again 4 cm it seemed to shink

i have noticed o little bump behind the left scar of my laparoscopic surgery; i could feel it only when I was standing up in certain positions; I did not worry since I was checked by so many doctors. I belived it was the cyst that was puting preasure on my abdominal wall .

august 2020 - I have arrived again at the ER with a cyst rupture ( a week before my scheduled check up); this time it looked bad and even the uterin tube was damaged ; I had again a laparoscopic surgery and this time they removed my left ovary - it was all the time a borderline mucinous ovarian tumor

after the surgery i have noticed that my bump on the abdominal wall was still there; i have talked about it with my doctor but he told me that it was a scar within my abdominal wall due to the surgeries

from now on , I had no more issues with ovarian cyst ( my right ovary was working well); but my abdominal wall bump was growing;

april 2021 - i had a MRI ( for the first time) ; the bump was not a scar and it was big -a tumour growing between my abdominal wall and the skin; moreover , inside the abdomen , on the omentum another tumour was growing (2 cm)

I had to change the medical team. The gynecologist decided not to take serriously the MRI result.

may 2021 - I had another surgery to remove the tumours - laparoscopic for the inside 2cm tumour and regular for the one in the abdominal wall : both were malign mucinous secondary tumours

july 2021 - I had the full surgery for ovarian cancer (they removed the right ovary, the uterus, the omentum, limph nodes etc.); this time they found no malign cells, even the IHC exam was perfect

Nobody can tell for sure what happend, but the doctors think that the malign tumours were mechanically implanted during the previous surgeries.

The oncologist decided not to have chemo or any other treatment , but have MRI every 3 months.

Since then I have performed 3 MRI and everything looked perfect.

Other details that may be important to you:

- i have no relatives with breast or ovarian cancer

- i have no genetic mutations related with breast or ovarian cancers

- before 2018 I had no other health issues, not even regular ovarian cysts (bigger then 3cm)

- i am a software engineer, I am leaving and working in normal environments.

Please keep in mind that I'am not a doctor and my story was just a particular case. I really hope that your daughter has a folicular cyst, but in case that cyst is mucinous again I hope my story helps.

I want to end my message on a positive note. Last year in june , before the big surgery, I decided to go on a vacation with my family thinking it was going to be my last. I wanted my son to build memories with me. Today, while I am writing you this message, I am going with my family to the same destination (not particullary planned, i belived is is faith). But this time I am going as a happy healthy woman.

Hope for the best!

That's so lovely to hear your positive news Corina have a great time and thanks for sharing, but I'm sorry to hear about your daughter Mellucy, and yes definitely don't 'wait' too long, unfortunately I ' believed' the Dr's when they said 'don't worry I don't have cancer' and they left me and left me, hysterectomy was when they said the cysts have spread to other areas and I've now been palliative for 4 years. Today I have even more sad news, my tummy is ballooning I thought it was ascites but no more tumours fill me up, so although I don't want to scare you just make you sure you go for 2nd opinion and get your elbows out if you need to be seen, don't just wait.... there are many that are benign and I hope your daughters are okay, all the best

Hey, I had a cyst on my remaining ovary that had disappeared on my follow up ultrasound! I totally understand the anxiety though, I automatically thought the worst given the previous cancer but it turned out to be nothing sinister. xx
