Hi everyone….after 5 years and 8 months I was discharged from the surgeon/oncologist yesterday. My CA125 was 7, all examinations fine. Still hasn’t sunk in, I had got myself so worked up going for the appointment as it was my first face to face for exactly 2 years. I was diagnosed in June 2016 and was so lucky it was caught early, stage 1c2. I hope this news gives you all hope. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel/ liver/lung cancer in 2008. He was discharged last year! Always hope, and believe it can happen. Love to you all.

That really is the best news and so very pleased you have shared your good news with us.
On looking at your profile I see you mention that you suffer from lymphoedema. I know many women on here and myself included who have lymph nodes removed have a small risk of developing this and may I ask how your lymphoedema is these days?
What have you been recommended to do and what treatment (if any) do you receive for this? Any tips you can suggest that helps minimise fluid build up?
Sending you good wishes x
Hi Sarah I was under the clinic for the first two years but it was such a trek for me to get there I discharged myself. I have it in my left leg. I have prescription support stocking that go up to the thigh. They are a pain to get on, broken many a nail. But they do work, what I do is wear one, keep it on overnight and my leg is beautifully slim the next day . It does come back in hours if I don’t do this. But I do allow myself days off, particularly in the summer and just put up with it. Marks and Spencer do some knee high support stockings which I use in between which are really quite good too. Good luck with your journey. x
Forgot to say if your lymphedema is in your legs I also have two small blocks of wood under the end of my bed, been there for 5 years. Only about 3 “ thick but helps the drainage at night time enormously. x
Thank you so much for your helpful replies. I do not currently suffer from lymphedema however I have been told there is a risk I may get this due to having some lymph nodes removed when I had my hysterectomy.
I was wondering if there was anything I could do to minimise the risk of getting lymphedema due to the hospital highlighting this risk to me e.g. gentle exercise (walking, etc), foods to eat or foods to avoid, etc.
Sounds like ensuring I keep my feet raised is helpful so I can make sure when I'm watching television my feet are raised.
Thank you so very much as I would like to prevent this and with so many wonderful women on here like you sharing their experiences it does help so many other women.
Hello there SarahBa
In response to your reply to triplets, I just wanted to share this Ovacome information about lymphoedema that may be of interest to you: ovacome.org.uk/lymphoedema . On this page there is a recording of an Ovacome webinar from October 2020 with the Lymphoedema Support Network, about why lymphoedema can occur in people with ovarian cancer and how this can be managed. There are also links on this page to information about compression garments, lifestyle, massage and drainage.
I hope this is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you would like to talk through anything. You can reply through this forum or call our support line on 0800 008 7054. We’re here Monday – Friday, 10am – 5pm.
Best wishes
