Hi all, I'm 50. Previous suspected adenomyoma. Last yr, haemorrhagic cyst & suspected uterine polyp. 5cm Simple Cyst (ovarian) found in Abdo Scan in May, scan had looked for gallstones, but stomach clear. Worsening problems in last 12 months plus: prolonged periods, near daily pelvic pains, stomach discomfort, aches, gas, now constipation, gripey spasms, been put on Laxido, vag spotting, bloating, pressure in belly and underneath, vag burning, recent poss BV, odd vaginal discharge, heaviness, some rectal bleeding when I'd come off Laxido & constipation would return. Been told I now have IBS due to stress of waiting to see Gynae for a year (urgent referral made last July), finally being seen in Aug after repeated calls etc. Got pelvic scan tomorrow after asking for months! I've read about some women being told they have IBS when really it's ovarian cancer. All kinds of thoughts going through my mind right now.

Hi RobinSong70Sorry you are having such a bad time. I think that it’s good you have a scan…is it CT or ultrasound? I would press for a CT scan and ca125 blood test. You want to rule out OC first, before they consider IBS. Or any other vague diagnosis. Don’t let up! Sending big hugs, be brave xx
Hi,
I'm hoping the scans will give you a picture of the problem and what it is and that it is not cancer.
I was told very clearly by excellent , highly experienced GP and oncologist/ surgeon that you do not develop IBS in middle age ( I was 53 at diagnosis and thought my symptoms may be IBS) . There are many things your symptoms could indicate but I think if you are told it's IBS and you haven't had your current symptoms for many years then I would not accept that as diagnosis.
Really good luck
Sorry you’re having to suffer for so long. I think PET scans are the most definitive. Make yourself a nuisance. You need answers. The worry for you is terrible. Sending my support and best wishes. X
Good afternoon RobinSong70
I am really sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like it has been a worrying time for you.
It is appropriate that you are seeking further investigations to your unexplained symptoms and I am sorry you have had to wait so long for any answers. IBS rarely occurs for the first time in those aged over 50. The symptoms you describe do correlate with some included in our B.E.A.T awareness campaign below. However, these symptoms can also be due to more common and less serious conditions.
Bis for bloating that doesn’t come and go
E is for eating difficulty and feeling full more quickly
A is for abdominal and pelvic pain you feel most days
Tis for toilet changes in urination or bowel habits
I hope that your scan provides clarity and direction to address the health issues you have been facing. If you would like to get in touch and discuss any of your concerns further, our Support Team can be contacted on the Support Line on 0800 008 7054 or 07503 682311, by email at support@ovacome.org.uk, via the Instant Chat function on our website or pre-booked for an individual video call.
