What is your experience with Gemzar?

A relative has had the following expoerience here in South Africa with OV. He CA 125 was 4000 and she was told Stage 3. She went onto Paclitaxel then Carboplatin but no difference and then lastly put onto Gemzar and it has changed her CA count to 170 at the last test. Has anyone else had experience with this drug and what side effects did they have. I am trying to get them onto this lovely helpful site.

Hello there ,I had 6 lots of carbo/ gemzar last year,for a first recurrence and found the combination quite reasonable. I felt a real lack of energy about 4 to 5th day, but after that felt fine.

I hope the gemzar continues to work for your relative.

Hi I was diagnosed in 2012 with stage 4 ovarian cancer and am currently on my 5th recurrence and on carboplatin and gemzer l was on this combo in 2014 with no problems but this time my bloods are playing up, to be fair the oncologist did say that gemzer can play havoc with the bloods. I have almost finished chemo for the time being and have found the gemzer to fatigue me and have shortness of breath e due to aneamia. l wish your relative all the best on this combo and hopefully get good results.
