Hi Polo2014That happened to me circa 1965... haven’t eaten meat since! Happy to welcome you to the veggie fold.

I suspect it may be just another effect of chemo and that you will probably feel differently once you’ve completed it xx

Mine really wasn't the smell, but more of how it went thru me. Just became very sluggish and plugged me up.

Right now If I so have any meat it is chicken or fish but again very small quantities.

Hope this helps...

Cheers,

Shelly

Yep. I can relate to this. During chemo for my recurrence I felt nauseous just at the smell of food cooking. Went off food in general but particularly meat. Really struggled to eat - just the thought made me nauseous. Couldn't get meat down but managed a few veggies. Spoke to hospital dietician but only suggestions that worked were some food supplements that I just about tolerated and keeping up fluids generally. Felt like this until I finished chemo and after. Part of problem was extremely low magnesium - I just wasn't absorbing it. I'm eating better now that that's been sorted out - sort off. I still don't eat a lot but I try not to overload my stomach anyway (it helps with the stoma). I've found eating little and often helps plus plenty of fluids. I've always got nutritious snacks prepared in the fridge. My husband does a lot of the cooking (I can't get a look in🙄) but he knows not to serve up large portions and very little meat.

Hi Polo, I’m having my third chemo now. I have gone off red meat and not that bothered about chicken. I enjoy the veg more than the meat and like you I’ve had a few veggie meals and quite like them. Hope all goes well

Love Angela xx

Yes, certain smells repulsed me. Especially meat. I ate most tart things- yogurt, kefir. Good Luck! 🙏

When I felt nausea from chemo, I would eat cold things. Cold salads, beans and just stayed away from the hot food. I only had that feeling for about 5 days. I have a good appetite now even on niraparib. I eat meat and probably too many sweets. The sweets also were good right after chemo which isn’t the best for my waistline. The cold food always went down easier, up my coffee tasted off after the chemo. Thank goodness coffee tastes good now on niraparib. xx Donna

Hi all, (am on here to understand what a close friend is experiencing right now.) I read an amazing, scientific and very detailed book some years ago called The China Study which described, after decades of studies (40 yrs?) by a number of scientists, the clear effects of meat and dairy - animal protein - promoting cancer spread versus a plant protein diet reducing the spread. (Particularly linked to hormonal cancers). They could literally plot the see-sawing of the negative effects of this as they fed meat diets to patients and the positive effects (shrinkage) when swapped for plant based diets again and again over time. Think it was to do with the animal (growth) hormones. And cows are big and have hormones to grow calves big too, these are all in our milk and dairy. I'm a bit of a meat eater, like a bit of dairy too but after reading those studies I would suspend those if diagnosed. A very good read, even if you flick about you get sucked in as it's clearly extremely good science. Much Love to all as I read all your posts xxx
