Filgrastim

I'm a bit concerned, just watching a documentary on Lance Armstrong. He has implied that he got his cancer after he'd taken human growth hormone. I think Filgrastim contains human growth hormone and I've had 8 injections of it after each chemo.

Could it actually make cancer worse? Does anyone know?

Hi Candy, maybe ask the Ovacome Support team on their freephone 0800 008 7054 or email them? Otherwise I find those 'anxiety seeds' (as I call them) run riot! And then when I've found knowledgeable people who can help me understand, the 'anxiety seeds' shrivel and my happier, balanced self takes over again...until the next 'anxiety seed' sows itself and so I go on! But asking the question means I get more happiness and balanced days now! Take care. Lx

Filgrastim is not human growth hormone it is a drug specifically intended to boost blood cell count. Do talk to your oncologist and cancer nurse to put your mind at rest. Also, medicines prescribed in recognised doses for diagnosed disease cannot be directly compared to illicit use for a non medical purpose in an uncontrolled dose.

I saw a documentary of his recently and I’d take what he says with a pinch of salt.

I’m sorry you’re worried.

I’m sure your team can answer this much better than we can, but as I understand it filgrastim isn’t a growth hormone but a drug to help restore your white blood count post chemo?

Given that Lance Armstrong deliberately took human growth hormones to boost his cycling performance, lied his way through his sporting career, took performance enhancing drugs and cheated the testing processes to hide his actions I’d take anything he says with a huge huge pinch of salt, I often wonder why the media in general give these people air space in which to perpetuate their nonsense and subject us all to such inane vacuous drivel. I’m sure he has some hidden ulterior motives behind his latest nonsense and suspect he has a huge ego that needs regular stroking.

Try not to let his claims get into your head and worry you totally unnecessarily, speak with your team who have knowledge based on proven and tested medicinal data. This OC journey is hard enough without having to listen to ‘famous’ idiots scaring us. Take care and stay safe, big hugs across the ether ❤️xx Jane

Thanks, everyone. I am reassured. Unfortunately, my team doesn't really exist and I just talk to anyone who happens to take the call and only I know how many chemos I've had or any of my history of treatment.
