Hope someone has some advice for me. I’ve had 18 weekly sessions of taxol and Avastin. My oncologist is giving me the option to continue the taxol or maintenance only with Avastin. I’m not sure if there is any benefit. Has anyone got experience our advice?
Continuing weekly taxol: Hope someone has some... - My Ovacome
Continuing weekly taxol
Hi. I have just completed weekly taxol, which has reduced my marker right down. We do not have the option of Avastin in NZ. I was given the option of continuing with Taxol as a maintenance option. The reason for this, is it is still working, however if I stop, and the cancer starts progressing quickly again, then Taxol will not be an option, as I will be deemed to be resistant. This is my 4th line treatment, and my drug options are running out, as I am BRCA negative. The recommendation was that I continue, and while weekly would be the best, i have chosen to do it fortninghtly, as I have started to have more severe neuropathy, and also my fingernails have started to change colour. Basically I felt I was "damned if I did, and damned if I didn’t", so I did. Hope this helps. Regards Therese
Thanks for your reply. I understand exactly where your coming from. I guess having the Avastin helps in the decision. I’m 4th line too with free options. Hope it continues to work for you for a long time.
I had carbo/taxol and Avastin 1st line as soon as I stopped it started to come back, it took 7 months to progress to full blown ca125 up to 1,600 ... jumping to 3rd line weekly taxol for 18 weekly sessions, 9 weeks After finishing ct scan not looking good and CA125 back up to 595 from 165 😩 so clearly on the March again so I’m now on the Rotterdam regime, I would have stayed on taxol but I’m sure It would have come back as soon as I decided to stop, it’s a difficult choice, my oncologist was concerned about irreparable neuropathy so the choice was a difficult one. I wish now I had continued for a while at least if only to get my CA125 into normal range but hay ho I didn’t.
Is this your 1st line ? ... what next if it returns ?
Sorry cannot really advise but that’s my journey so far. Feel free to ask for any more info.
Take care
Wishing you well

Hi, my mum has just started this regime. How was your experience? This is her 2nd reoccurrence.
I had a good response with taxol and bevazicumab. Finished December 2021. Progression and 2 phase 1 trials, back on taxol. Don’t know if it’s working yet. Only had 1.
