Abdominal spasms

Hello all. Hope those who celebrated Thanksgiving enjoyed the day. I am six months post debulking surgery and finished front-line chemo about two weeks ago. About a month ago, I began having really weird feeling spams in left abdominal area. It feels as though there is a fist inside me that slowly tightens, then relaxes. My oncologist says he believes it is has to do with muscle. He does not seem concerned. I just had a CT scan that come back with no evidence of disease except for inconclusive spot on liver. I will have a PET scan soon. My abdomen is still tender especially on either side of the incision. I guess I thought any post-op tenderness would have vanished by now because my surgery was six months ago. Do any of you ladies continue to have tenderness or spasms in the abdominal area? I am due to start 200 mg Niraparib in a three weeks. Thank you

Sashay

Hi Sashay2020Yes that does sound familiar.... as you say it feels like a tightening inside. It went on intermittently for quite a while and then came back when I was on chemo this summer.

We have so much disruption to our insides I suppose it’s no surprise that they take a while to settle xx

Thanks, Lyndy. I was just wondering what the heck is going on?! At least I’m not alone in this weirdness.

Hi Sashay2020,

I have had debulking done in August and on chemo now. I did feel tenderness on both sides of abdomen after surgery but it had settled. But with chemo back on, there is again some sort of discomfort around the abdominal area. I hope it will go away after chemo finishes.

Thanks for responding. Perhaps my innards will settle down as I am further out from chemo. Sure hope so

Hi Sashay. I was told it could take a year for my abdominal discomfort to resolve after debulking surgery. That was pretty accurate in my case. The heating pad was good temporary help and I wore an abdominal binder on and off for a long while. Glad to hear your scans looked good. The worst is behind you.

Thanks, Nadie. That’s good to know. I’m starting to tense and release what abdominal muscles I have left to try and gently strengthen them.

I suggest you get magnesium levels tested. I have chronically very low magnesium as a consequence of chemo damage to my kidneys and I get very painful spasms which I think are from the bowel . I also get leg cramps.

Thanks, Neoma. I will have another look at my lab reports.

That’s very interesting Neona because I have a renal scan coming up in just over a week to check my sluggish kidney ( technical term?). I have been getting a bit of flank discomfort but just recently shooting pains in my abdomen that go down into my groin and down my thighs. Is very weird and at times really painful. I wonder if it’s magnesium levels? I’ve been taking paracetamol, what do you do for it? Maria.

Not sure this sounds like low magnesium. I had kidney scan to check for blockages but was clear so guess they are ruling that out. Any possibility of kidney infection or UTI. Low magnesium for me has been cramps- like knotting up and very painful but not shooting anywhere.
