Re: Avastin drug - nerve pain? I've just re-started Avastin / Bevucizumab again after having surgery, and after my second cycle of Avastin, a week later, i started experiencing a lot of severe headaches and also very painful nerve pain around left-side of my Jaw (and sore, swollen lymph glands in my neck too). I'm a bit worried as I've read there is a "rare" side-effect from this drug which can cause cells in the Jaw bone to die off and sections of the bone tissue to die off - so i'm a bit worried and will speak to my cancer doctor, just to let him know about the nerve pain in my jaw / gums. Its been quite bad on and off for last couple of but feels slightly better this morning, so i'll see how I am tomorrow. I'm a bit worried as I don't know if there's another drug which I can have, if I cannot take this drug. I also have M.E./Chronic Fatigue syndrome too, so maybe it'll take a while to recover from the chemo and get used to this new Avastin drug - hopefully this nerve pain in my Jaw (& headaches) will go off soon! I wondered if anyone else has experienced this too on Avastin?

Hi

I also have primary peritoneal cancer, and had Avastin too.

I had a lot of pain / severe Aches across my collar bone into my neck muscles, across my shoulders and into the top of my arms, it felt like my muscles were in a vice, not a nice feeling. It all cleared up when I came off the treatment.

As it’s in your jaw bone it could be the same only a bit higher up ????

Are your teeth in good order ??? Could you perhaps have an abscess???

Sorry I can’t be much more help than that.

Definitely call your oncologist or CNS if only to put your mind at rest.

I joined a PPC group on facebook but found mostly in America and not that many posts going on but there was one lady who also complained of pain in similar places to us, might be worth a look ?

I do hope you feel better soon.

Take care

Thanks Christine, I will speak to my Specialist Nurse / or Oncologist, tomorrow about it and see what she says. I'll let you know. Glad you are feeling a bit better now. :-)

I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia after having severe pain in left side of my face.

I'm sorry to hear that Neona. We're you on Avastin/ Bevacizub drug when the pain started? I was wondering if that's what triggered it...although it's getting a lot better now, only a slight pain every now and again sometimes when I eat.

No am on a trial drug. I think it may be my moldex facemask pressing on the trigeminal nerve. I have stopped wearing it but still have some pain though not so bad.
