undiagnosed but getting tested

Hello everyone, Any advice appreciated.

Two weeks ago i started having severe bleeding soaking through pads, my gp prescribed tranxameic acid and that helped stop it, I got referred for a TV scan and the next day I got called to say I had an appointment with a Gynae, she then referred me for an Mri which i had yesterday and a hysteroscopy which I had on wednesday, they took a biopsy and I have a follow up appointment in 3 weeks.

Since the hysteroscope I am back to bleeding and soaking through pads, is this normal? Did anyone else experience this after hysteroscopy?

thank you x

Hello Moomoome

Sorry you find yourself in this worrying position. Good that you are having investigations done and in a timely manner.

I believe that bleeding is unusual as a prediagnosis symptom of Ovarian Cancer but I am not a doctor.... I am only going on my own symptoms ( which were gastrointestinal) and what I have read here from others. Have the medics given you a ca125 blood test? If not ask them to do it because it’s very simple and a raised ca125 can be indicative of OC. Best of luck with it all.... let’s hope it something else and easily fixed xx

Sorry to hear this. I can't help I'm afraid as I didn't get any symptoms at all.

Hi Moomoome, I am glad to hear you have acted so quickly & your symptoms are been investigated. Hopefully it won't be OC & it's something else causing the bleeding & I don't want to worry you by telling you that I was bleeding heavy for 3 weeks before I went to my GP ( I think bleeding can be a rare enough symptom for OC). She did a Ca125 blood test straight away & an internal examination. When she got the results of the blood test it was over 2,500 so she got an appointment with a gynaecologist for me who on examination could tell me straight away I had cancer but he had to wait for biopsy results as he thought it might be cervical but it turned out to be OC. My advice is if you can try not to jump the gun & worry yourself , easier said than done I know but wait until all the test results are in & hopefully you don't have OC. If you do, your swift actions mean they can act quickly. Wishing you all the best & please let me know how you get on 🌸 Mag

Hello, sounds like your situation was just like mine, even down to the tranxamic acid. I was bleeding slightly during the hysteroscopy and resumed bleeding heavily after. I was diagnosed with womb cancer and have had radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Looks like I’m on the other side now and will need scans for the next 3-5 years to make sure it’s all gone. I was prescribed provera until I had my hysterectomy and that stopped the excessive bleeding. Fingers crossed it’s something more benign. I wish you the best! Rosie xx

Hi Moomoome,

I had an unexplained fairly heavy vaginal bleed and at 59 I was post menopausal so it needed investigation, any unexplained/unusual bleeding has to be investigated so well done on acting quickly. My GP did an examination, he felt a mass around the area of my left ovary, did bloods and the rollercoaster ride started. I too had transvaginal scan, MRI plus a CT scan. My CA125 was raised but it was not exceptional I had other things going on too that were related to the cancer. I didn’t have a hysteroscope so can’t comment from experience but it’s possible it has caused bleeding (I’ve googled it and it’s not uncommon apparently).

I hope your situation doesn’t develop into anything sinister and it could be something as simple as polyps, you’re doing all the right things and hopefully will get a simple answer soon. If, however, it turns out you have issues and need us more we’re all here to support you as is our amazing admin team who can answer any questions we can’t. I would say not to Google Ovarian Cancer as you could read anything into it and convince yourself you have something you may not have.

Take care and let us know how it goes for you. This is a scary time for you but you’re not alone we’re here. Big virtual hugs ❤️Xx Jane
