Hi Ladies, was wondering if anyone has had out of breath symptoms as a side effect from chemo?

Hi Yes, I did because it was due to a lowering of red blood cells. As they regain then the breathlessness diminishes. If you are currently going through chemo and it becomes bad you may need a transfusion. Take care. Kathy xx

Thank you for reply , doing all blood tests and xray to rule out anything else. ☺x

I did from my PARP not chemo, but like Kathy says it was my red blood cells dropping and I had a transfusion! Keep an eye on it and let your team know x

Hello Dubai18

Please do contact the chemo hotline or other contact number you have been given at the hospital to report this side effect. They will be able to advise you as to whether you need to be seen by a clinician and hopefully reassure you. If you are unable to get hold of your team, please call 111 for advice. I hope this resolves soon for you.

Best wishes

I don’t want to rattle you but I agree that you need to report this to your team. Most likely you have low red blood cells but I have spent most of this year struggling with pleural effusion which also makes you breathless... I am therefore very keen to encourage anyone with this symptom to get checked out! Best of luck... I am sure you will get it sorted xx

Agree I had these symptoms and for me it was a recurrence and causing pleural effusion. Not scaremongering but vital to get any odd symptoms out.

Yes, I had breathlessness with each cycle of chemo. It was worst in the week following treatment and improved in the last week, just before the next cycle. My oncologist said it was due to a drop in red blood cells.

It’s always worth getting anything you are worried about checked out though, my team were super quick at responding to any queries- they want to keep us as well as possible through chemo. Good luck with your tests x

Yes I had it all the way through chemo. Mine was checked and red blood cells were low. Resolved after chemo finished.

Yes I was breathless during to chemo causing drop in red blood cells. Had a blood transfusion twice to bring back up and was fine. Ok now chemo completed. Phone the Oncline x

Do get checked out ,I was always out of breath on chemo ,but one time it was a lot worse ,a scan showed a small blood clot in my lung , soon resolved with anticoagulant injections , I'd say its the chemo .xx

yes I had severe breathlessness in bouts of around 2 weeks and this recurred several times over the last 3 years. I had blood tests and scans and it remains unexplained although I suspect the very low magnesium problems that I have had since chemo.

For me it was always anaemia and/or low platelet counts. The result? Four transfusions. They made a world of difference. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Dubai, Yes. I was on caeylx/carbo and around day 6 I was breathless. And for one evening I was gasping for breath. This really freaked me out the first time and of course, panic made it all much worse. My husband sat with me for hours, got me to sit up rather than lie down (this helped) and the worst of it past.

During the chemo, just climbing the stairs made me breath harder.

I kept a diary. It was so useful to know what to expect on or around each day. Migraines started on a certain day, tearful anxiety on another. I mentioned the breathlessness to my oncologist and she was pretty unconcerned.

Good luck Dubai.

Rosie. X

I remember being out of breath with chemo. I had transfusions also. I'm so glad we have each other to share our symptoms and help each other cope. xo

I was short of breath on Zejula, due to my hemoglobin being very low. I was also dizzy and had headaches. Just had a blood transfusion and I am off of Zejula for a week. I will wait and see what my dr will do next.

I never had these bad symptoms on chemo infusions, only on this parp inhibitor.
