Intermittent Fasting

I am starting chemo this week, and wondered if anyone has experience of fasting for a few days over this period. I did it last time and believe that it really helped with side effects. If you have tried it, how long did you fast, and what did you eat?

I didn't starve, just severely reduced my food intake for five days, and did research on the subject first.

I'm very interested that you did this. I am doing intermittent fasting (juice and water fast) every fourth week, as part of a regime to try to keep the cancer away. I am only about to start my 7th week of this programme, so early days yet. I started as I fear I may have a recurrence - and will be seen in clinic this week having done CT scan and blood test. If I need chemo I would certainly fast and do 'green days'. I'm glad you think it helped your symptoms. It is also supposed to make the chemo more effective. I do wish you the best of luck. Please do keep me posted.

It worked last time. I do for three days before chemo, the day of chemo and one day after, but would be willing to try an alternative regime.

Am a big fan. I only do it 24hrs before and after water herb teas and veg broth plus nonfat no sugar yogurt and glass of soymilk. It cuts fatigue down to one day and i feel great. Cant do it for longer as am On weekly taxol.

Hi. I have mixed berries for breakfast and lunch, and vegetables (ratatouille) for my main meal. Perhaps I could cut down on my days. It was manageable before so I will see how I go!

Yes think keeping away from solids for a shorter period might work as well. Cancer feeds on glucose and all foods end up transformed into glucose so no sugar including fruit for 24 hrs is what i do. Good luck

I am actually eating fruit, though know what you mean about sugar. It's difficult to know what to do for the best.

Thank you for that. I have always thought that an unprocessed, natural food would not be harmful.
