Hello ladies,

I hope that you are all managing to stay as well as possible.

I have had two cycles of Carbo /Gemsar,& my CA 125 has dropped from 485 to 220, which I am over the moon about. They did not have yesterdays blood test results for the ca125,but hopefully it will have dropped again, fingers crossed. Yesterdays test showed low neutrofils 0.8 so I had to return for 8.30 for a further test this morning & thankfully the neutrofils had gone up to 1.8 overnight,so I was able to have the single dose of Gemsar.

Has anyone heard from Laura,I wondered how she was getting on with the Carbo. I hope that she is ok.

Hello

I’m also on carbo Gem. My CA125 rose after first round hopefully 2nd round will show an improvement. I was given filgrastim so I had no promlems with bloods. Ask if you can have filgrastim and it would be one less worry for you.

Good luck with your future treatments.

Did you have to pay for the Filagastrim yourself? I was told I would have to part self fund here in Scotland at£100 a shot. I have had 9 so far but haven’t actually had the bill.

No payment was required. I didn’t ask for it. It just appeared at the end of my chemo session. I hope you don’t have to pay up.

Hi Katie, Thank you for the information on Filagastrim, that is interesting. I will ask at my next Consultation.

I hope the Carbo/Gem works for you, I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

Take care,

Hi Cakeda,

I am doing just fine on the plain old Carboplatin regime, but wish I could try the Gem again.

My eating has been much better this time around, Cycle 3, but I do tire easily if I try to do too much, which is a drag. Doing too much is just the teensiest bit above doing nothing.

I don’t post very often, unless I have some special advice to give others or I am looking for some advice for myself.

This forum seems to provide plenty of great support without my 2 cents, but I do love it.

I am very jealous that you get to have Carbo and Gem and wish I could join you, but here’s hoping that the Carbo does the truck - it has so far...

Be well,

Hugs,

Laura

Hi Laura

Good to hear your doing OK. Can l ask what happened with the dice trial? Like me you have had several recurrences and l am interested in the fact they are still giving you carboplatin.

My latest treatment with carbo/caelyx was halted after number 4 as ca125 kept creeping up,last one 946. Now l am being classed as carboplatin resistant. Running out of time looking for a suitable trial, active symptoms and plural effusion, so it's looking like single agent plaxitaxol. For many obvious reasons not looking forward to this as a fourth line. Feeling rather deflated at the moment. Stay well. Sylvia x

Dear Sylvia,

They did classify me as platinum resistant, but that never made sense to me.

I failed the DICE trial, with weekly Taxol, which kept me sick for six months, and did not stop the progression of the cancer.

Gemcitabine alone is a sting cancer fighter, terrific at destroying fast dividing cells, like cancer cells.

Unfortunately, it also destroys fast dividing cells like your bone marrow cells, so it decimated mine and I had to come off of it.

Still, we are all different and [you could ask about] Gemcitabine alone (edited by moderator).

Best wishes and hugs,

Laura

Thank you for that suggestion. My husband thought the same, I have had gem before with carbo and l had a good response. I then started Olaparib but by 5 months again had active cancer.

There was a time l was so pleased to be non brca. I have2 daughters and a grandaughter! But looking for a trial for hgs oc non brca is a night mare and l feel that l am going down hill in the meantime. Catch 22 if l start another chemo now it will exclude me from a trial whilst on treatment. I can only wait to see what happens this week. I am lucky to have access to my consultant who will act in my best interest. S X

Dear Laura,

I am pleased that you are doing ok just with Carbo,& fingers crossed it keeps going that way. The carbo knocks me with tiredness when I have the combination of carbo/gem, but I do recover, reasonably quickly.

These two weeks now after the Gem on its own, help me to get back to normal thankgoodness.

Take care of yourself & keep safe.

Love Caleda xx
