Gem/carbo

My new brooch I bought myself to celebrate the early signs of hope. My Ca125 has dropped from 374 last month to 155 yesterday after just 2 sessions of gem/carbo.. I was so worried that I had become carbo resistant but this has really made me hopeful. I know it's still early days but I feel so much more positive.

Yay!! Interesting about carbo resistant. My doc told me if I stayed in remission for 9 months, that means he can use the same chemo as before. If it's 3 months, it's not a good idea, 6 months is maybe ok. I think this was about carbo resistance? Just to note, he finally explained that all my joint issues may easily be because the carbo has a tendon related side effect. Of course folks have different responses. Great news about CA 125. Yes and that acted super quickly and kept me in remission. Now almost 6 months with only Avastin, and I am still okay :-)

Welshandproud profile image
Welshandproud in reply tocarolleigh

Thank you Carol. I had been told that if it came back within 6 months then I was probably carbo resistant but mine came back in 5 months. My oncologist thought that it was a worth a go and it looks like she was right and I am so grateful. Interesting about the carbo tendon issue. That makes sense

So pleased that your treatment has been so effective too. Congratulations xxxx

Great news Sian. I’m finding CarboGem manageable - I had my first one of the second cycle yesterday. I saw my consultant on Wednesday - my CA125 has gone up a bit, it was 1140 and is now 1260. She thinks it’s too early to be worried - my readings have always been a bit bizarre, but I’m hoping it will come down over the next few chemos.

I love the brooch - you deserve to treat yourself during treatment. I tend to buy wool and fabric - current projects are socks and a short sleeved dress to make PICC line access easier!

Onwards and upwards for us! Much love Ali x

Thank you Ali. I remember on my first line treatment that my ca125 went up before dropping. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this will be the case for you too.

I'm glad that you are finding this treatment manageable too. I must say so far it's been doable for me too!!!

We do need to treat ourselves I agree. You sound very creative. I am very impressed. You must put up some pictures of your latest creations. Sending you lots of love xxxx

Wonderful news Siân.

Hope your CA125 continues to drop & you feel up to living your best life xxx

I thought that too Judy. A visual reminder of how far I've come in the last 3 years and 5 months since diagnosis. At diagnosis I was told that I had a life expectancy of 4 and a half months if I did nothing. I am so pleased that I started treatment so quickly.xxxx

Beautiful brooch for a beautiful lady. Well done on the excellent CA125 drop, long may it continue in this direction. Must be such a relief for you all to have this response if it was thought you had possibly become carbo resistant.

As always, huge encouragement, big hugs and love Sian ❤️Xx Jane

Welshandproud profile image

Hi Jane yes it was such a huge relief after the Niraparib not working and the Letrozole having no effect. I was starting to wonder whether I would ever get an effective treatment again. This has boosted my confidence so much. Xxx
