Ovarian cancerBloating ? Off and on ?

Hello,

I have experienced prettg severe bloating that last about 1 ot 2 weeks at a time since last year. I did a colonoscopy December 2019 : all clear.

Tried foodmap diet. Bloating was still off and on.

For example, End of june 2020 , my stomach was litteraly flat for 2 weeks. No more bloating! Was so happy.

Then it came back with a vengeance. I am now bloated all day non stop . I look 4 months pregnant.

In ovarian cancer, does the bloating come and go ? Is it persistent due to its cause and origin ?

Thank you so much for reading and answering.

Please visit your OBGYN and get checked out. My advice is not to wait. Don’t try to cure severe bloating w diet/cleanse etc as so many of us have done.

Just do it. Make the spot. Be brave and know an early diagnosis is far better to deal with-

If you continue to delay, you could have a far more difficult time if there is a real problem.

It may be nothing. Just find out.

Blessings!

Hello !

Went to OB this morning , he did a pelvic exam ( manual...) and said he is pretty sure it’s a gastrointestinal issue. Schedule me for a pelvic ultrasound to make sure he says... it was scheduled for today at 3:00pm but unfortunately they canceled. It is Thursday instead.....

I totally agree with the other post, get this checked out by a Medical Professional. Sue xx

Yes, in my experience it can come and go. However, I could not possibly say if you are experiencing symptoms of OC. You are obviously very concerned about your symptoms so I would visit your gp and get a referral to a gynaecologist. For your information, I had severe bloating for 1/2 weeks which would then disappear for months on end and then suddenly reappear. I also got acid reflux at this time and felt full after a couple of bites of food. I thought it was some weird type of indigestion. This went on (I ignored it) for two years until I experienced more obvious symptoms. My doctors were sceptical that I hadn't had constant symptoms all this time but everyone experiences things differently and the proof was in the diagnosis. So I am saying don't delay in seeking help. For your own peace of mind make that appointment. It is likely not what you fear but it seems something is going on so the sooner you make that appointment the sooner you can get it sorted.

I am confused, I have been reading that ovarian cancer can cause bloating because a liquid, called ascites fluid, is produced.

I just wonder how it comes and goes since fluid causes bloating.

I will definitely call my OB for a consultation.

Thank you

Not sure what cause the occasional bouts of bloating. It was not severe, it was mostly a little uncomfortable. What I do know is that it was not ascites. I have never had ascites. As I said my symptoms were a little unusual. Not everyone presents cancer in the same way. May I just say that it sounds like you are consulting Dr Google. Google has its uses if you want to look up medical terms etc but don't try to diagnose or second guess yourself using Google. I did this to begin with but soon stopped as I ended up frightening myself silly. Best course of action is to get some professional medical help asap. Jackie

Well I see from your previous posts that a gastrointestinal problem could be the issue but your OB seems to be thorough. Good luck for Thursday. Hope you don't have to wait too long for the results. 🍀🤞

I saw the OB and went for an ultrasound Thursday. He called me yesterday to let me know I have a cyst ( 2cm) and a fibroid. He says they are not large enough to cause bloating. He says cysts is about the same size it was 15 months ago when I had an ultrasound. He says keep monitoring....

Mumsie13 profile image
Mumsie13 in reply toMariechristine

You are to keep monitoring? He didn't suggest a CT scan? It's good to know that the cyst and fibroid are small but is he going to follow up? Are you still getting the bloating? Have you had any more information on that front? Let us know how you are getting on - we are here to support one another 🤗 Jackie

Hello, I already had CT scan in October 2019 of abdomen and pelvic . It was ordered by a gastroenterologist . He saw the cyst and said to follow up with on OB at this point.

Not sure what to do at all ?

Yes, I am still bloated.

Wish I could attached a pic.

ON thinks it’s a gastrointestinal issue....

Oh dear. A bit if a conundrum. I can see it must be difficult to know what to do at this point. Perhaps a revisit to the gastroenterologist as the bloating seems to be your most pressing issue at the moment especially when the OB thinks the cyst and fibroid are too small to be causing this problem. We are with you whatever you decide. I hope you get some answers soon. Jackie

Thank you so much. I’ll take a break from now and see a gastroenterologist again in the fall.

Please get checked out! I had no bloating, and just vague twingey abdominal pains diagnosed twice as a UTI, a previous ultrasound and blood test a few months before having come back fine. I am so glad I went to the GP again as she sent me for a CT and blood test sure that it wasn't anything to worry about and it came back with OC. It's a VERY sneaky disease!

If you go now you will hopefully have your mind put at rest, can stop worrying about OC and tackle what the problem actually is. If it is OC you will have caught it and can get started on treatment.

Keeping fingers crossed for you - let us know how you get on.

Lesley

Thank you.

What is the best way to rule out ovarian cancer ? A CT scan shows the cancer but an ultrasound doesn’t ?

in reply toMariechristine

I had an ultrasound first. A large mass was seen on my abdomen. Then I had a CT scan.

A CT might be an option that would put your mind at ease.

Hi

I think I didn't had OC when I had the ultrasound and bloodtest, but I the CT gives a much clearer picture so I'd ask for that - you have obviously been suffering for a while so it needs to be sorted. As I said, when I went back again, because my ultrasound came back fine nothing sinister was expected, and I am just very luck my GP was so thorough!

Good luck!

You should ask your GP to do a blood test for a tumour marker CA 125 and to be referred for an abdominal ultrasound scan. In my case both of these indicated strongly that I had OC but I then had a CT scan to give them a clearer picture of the tumour. I had no symptoms apart from unintentional weight loss observed by other people, and fatigue at weekends, so I would certainly press for action given the symptoms you are describing.

Also if you are over the age of 50, don’t accept a diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), as apparently this is much more a condition that affects younger people.

Hope you will get some answers soon and do call the Ovacome free helpline on 0800 008 7054 if you want to chat things through with an experienced and knowledgeable person. Over the past few years I have contacted them several times and always found them friendly and helpful.

Best wishes that you will soon get some action.

I wouldn't go so far as to say an ultrasound doesn't show cancer or more correctly a tumour or mass, it depends where it is. My GP immediately sent me for an ultrasound and did a CA125 blood test. The ultrasound showed a suspicious pelvic mass which, at the time we didn't know whether it was cancerous or not. However the CA125 was elevated so she made an urgent 2 week appointment with the consultant gynaecologist. Again a CT scan may or may not show a tumour or mass. However, if it does a CT scan may give more information than an ultrasound can. As someones has said OC is a tricky customer. As far as I am aware a PET scan can show areas where cancer is active. I think we are getting way ahead of ourselves here. Your Consultant should be able to answer these questions when you have your appointment. Let us know how you get on. Jackie
