I was on Niraparib until 6weeks ago but it stopped working so now on letrozole. I knew I had to shield when I was on the parp, inhibitor but not sure if I can now go out to exercise whilst social distancing. I will really be grateful for any advice.

Hi there, I’m not shielding while on letrozole if that helps? I did get the letter telling me to shield but talked to the doc and agreed that as chemo finished a year ago it wasn’t really relevant now . I don’t know if the Parp inhibitors leave you more vulnerable for a period of time at all though so is check with your oncologist just to make sure.

Stay safe. X

Hi I have been on Letrozole for 19 months. It does not impact white blood cells so your immunity is not compromised. I go out most days to walk and do Pilates etc at home.

Exercise is really important while on AIs as they cause joint pain particularly in feet, ankles, wrists and hands and the more you move the less the discomfort. Hot flashes can be uncomfortable especially in hot weather - avoid too much alcohol and if possible wear light natural fibre clothing. Sleep disruption is the hardest side effect for me!! Hope this works well for you.

Hi! I’ve been on letrozole for a year now. I got a letter from govt. saying I should shield, so did for about 6 weeks, then got another letter saying I’d been ‘downgraded’! Saw my oncologist last week and he said that I don’t need to shield and that I need to be getting out of the house every day. I’ve noticed since shielding that my body aches a lot more because I’m not moving! (Thanks to the letrozle)...so I’m out and about a lot more and I feel a lot better...my cancer has been stable for a year on letrozole so worth putting up with the aches and pains! Hope this helps xx
