Hello

This is to let you know about a study called 'PROTECTOR.' They are recruiting women who have not yet gone through the menopause and are at increased risk of ovarian cancer. This could be because they have tested positive for genetic mutations that increase their risk or because of their family history.

In this study, women will have the option to have their fallopian tubes removed at first, leaving the ovaries in place, and then to have their ovaries removed at a later stage, or after natural menopause. They can also choose to have their fallopian tubes and ovaries removed at the same time, or to have no surgery.

The study assesses women’s views and the impact of this two-step surgery on sexual function, hormone levels, quality of life and overall satisfaction. Outcomes from this new approach are compared to the traditional approach of removal of both tubes and ovaries in the same operation. They will also compare this to the well-being of women who do not have surgery.

You can find out more about the study at:

If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Best wishes
