Ascites and permanent stomach drain

I had my stomach drained a week ago, the first time since diagnosis in 2017. I am bloated again and am miserable. Oncologist talked about permanent drain. I already have a drain in lung for pleural effusion and feel overwhelmed. I just started Rubraca and was hoping it would decrease fluid. I also am several weeks out of the hospital due to sepsis. Wondering if all these things are related. Anyone have a permanent stomach drain?

Dear Aspin,

I don’t really know how to reply to this question, but I think it would help to get a little more info about your condition.

The awful pleural effusion and ascites are caused by progressing cancer.

What other treatments have you been on and how did you do on these and after first line?

Are you living in the UK?

So sorry that you are suffering so and I hope the ascites will drain away by itself soon.

Best wishes,

Laura

Laura, I live in the US. I have primary peritoneal cancer. Had Carbo-taxol, debulking, more Carbo-taxol, Gemzar, Avastin, and now taking the PARP Rubraca. Hoping Rubraca will slow the progression. Was told it is my last hope and I should consider hospice.

That sounds crazy.

We all get recurrences and we all get offered a variety of treatments. You need to find a research hospital. Ask for a referral for a second opinion.

Where in the US are you?

There are amazing hospitals all over the US, usually at Universities.

Please let us know where you are located.

Post a request for advice for a second opinion here.

Many women have gone that route, including going for clinical trials.

Don’t give up the fight!

Hugs,

Laura

Been to MD Anderson in Houston and was on a clinical trial with Rubraca and an investigative drug. But never got on the drug because my blood pressure would never go below 140. Had two month delay and then my oncologist in Kansas City put me back on Rubraca (January 2),

So sorry you have all these issues. Prayers sent your way. It’s bad enough having OC but you must be totaling overwhelmed.

Have to tried a major cancer clinic?

I'm in pretty much the same situation here in the UK. I've just started the modified Rotterdam Regime (cisplatin and etoposide). I've only been on it a week but my ascites seem much better.

Hope you can find further solutions and a sense of strength and peace. 💐 Xx
