I had the dread news today. The surgical team have managed to squeeze me into their schedule NEXT TUESDAY, so I'm back on the treadmill. Will anyone else be at Queen Charlotte or Hammersmith Hospital next week??
And I'll be on carboplatin/Caelyx for afters...
Damn.

So sorry to read this Carol... I am gutted for you ❤️. We all live with this and it never gets any easier to hear that another fellow traveller has the invader back again. It may be a good thing to get on with the treatment plan now... by the spring you should be almost finished. Best of luck for this treatment xx
Sorry you have to go through this. I have my second Carbo caelyx for first recurrence tomorrow. Why are they doing surgery? I asked about it and they said there would be too many microscopic bits they’d miss. Good luck! Xo
Hi Delia, my spots are not spread about, but confined to either side of the diaphram, and surgery is considered a good option. I am hopeful at this point... how do you find carbo/caelyx?
So far I had a week of being in bed and nauseous but three weeks of feeling fairly normal. I suspect I’ll have worse blood counts in the later cycles but maybe not. I hope all goes well with surgery!xo
Recurrence makes it hard to count your blessings that you had three amazing clear years after your first surgery, without one.
This is like a slap in the face: suddenly finding you did not escape after all - and your back in treatment again.
But thankfully, you have a fantastic team.
It’s stunning that your surgeon is getting you bLack into surgery so swiftly.
And Carbo/ Caelyx should be doable as long as they moderate your Carboplatin.
Give in to recuperation. Your surgery is coming soon and you will be laid up for a while.
When you start on Carbo/ Caelyx
remember that most of us spent the first week of every cycle in bed, but after that, we felt pretty good and we kept our hair!
Be brave.
Hugs,
Laura
I wish you luck with the surgery and chemo. It is not nice indeed to be told you have a recurrence. On the bright side I have recurred a few time since diagnosis in 2006 and I am still here. On Caelyx at the moment
They’ve got onto things quickly which is great, although a shock....and disappointing of course. Best wishes for the surgery & chemo. By all accounts, you have a good team there.
Hi Carol, I don't often reply on this site but read yours. I am sorry to hear it is back. I had my op done at Queen Charlotte and was impressed by the team and staff. Spent 9 days there. My ONC nurse was good and I still see her whenever I go for blood tests. I just put my trust in the team. Hopefully you will be getting into a pattern soon. I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery. Angela
Nice to hear from you Angela, thank you! I have great faith in the team too. They are warm, caring, and extremely skilled. Fingers crossed... all the best to you.
I had the clinic and pre-ops yesterday, I'm in to work today to pass on the news and do a handover. I had primed my boss there might be bad news... Due in to hospital next Monday.
Sorry it's back, Carol. But the good news is that you will be able to have surgery again, right? So a good chance to get rid of most or all of it in a matter of hours, even if another chemo cycle follows.
Crossing my fingers for surgery, and treatment. xx. Maus
I love that concept: "in a matter of hours" ! Thank you for your best wishes! xx
I was gutted when I was told that I had recurred after only 6 months, I am hoping for a longer remission this time! I am on Caelyx/Carbo (4 infusions so far) and doing well, no hair loss but it has thinned a bit on top but not very noticeable to others, don't be alarmed if your CA125 rises to begin with, mine did and apparently it is usual for Caelyx to take a while to kick in, it is now less than half. The only other significant symptom I have had is fatigue. A few other niggly symptoms that come and go but nothing life changing. Good luck with your op. x
You know you'll be in the best hands at Queen Charlotte's. I had my 2nd surgery (3rd in all ) there 7 weeks ago. Discharged after 5 days. Op. to NED again. Everybody, bar none, were brilliant. Best wishes. Gwen Xx
Devastated that you’re having to go through this. But so pleased you are able to have surgery under such a great team and they are sorting quickly. If you need anything or just want to chat just pm me.
Will be a difficult day spreading news at work today. Thinking of you.
Thanks so much, Kim! Would you believe I'm currently battling with npower to come and fix my gas meter, they can't come out until after I run out of gas, which will happen while I'm in hospital. Come home to a cold house and negotiate with a technician? - impossible.
I find it really hard to get through to them in the first place, this has been ongoing for weeks. The easiest thing to do is ramp up the central heating and let the gas run out... it's not "urgent" unless you are cut off, they won't do it themselves!
Jut to say I had my second lot of Carbo/Caelyx last Thursday. Apart from feeling sick on Sunday, mouth like a bird cage and only wanting to eat bland, white food I'm doing ok! Stocked up on lollies, plain crisps and white bread which has been great! Good luck, xx
Crisps!!! That's one of the chief chemo food groups, thank you for reminding me to go and buy a couple of huge bags of plain - my favourite. Bless! Carol x
I am so sorry--to go through the mental shock of recurring is almost harder than going through treatment for recurring but you want to look at small bright spots based on my experience, I recurred with a "sheath" of cancer over my abdomen and no chance of surgery because its not localized tumor(s). Much harder to treat as well. I hope you don't take offense to me saying I am envious you can have surgery! I also found Carbo/Caelyx the least difficult regimen chemo-wise and as others have said, within the first week, my days 3 and 4 were a bit harsh but after that, 3 and 1/2 weeks of feeling totally normal, living life to its fullest.
Wishing you all the luck and much support as you move forward with the plan. You've got this! oxoxox Judy
Judy, thank you so much, all the best to you as well, and I am very grateful that the team are so relaxed and confident about surgery, I do agree with you! In a way it's good that's so very soon, I'm so busy organising myself I hardly have time to worry. xxx
So sorry to hear this , just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your surgery and treatment . I’m due for my three month check up in two weeks , already getting stressed out about it 😳
Opration will be over and done with by this time next week... under the diaphram, outside of liver, possibly outside of spleen, one possible lymph node... and anything else lurking. Onward and upward! Thank you! xx
I’m so sorry you’re going through recurrence, can fully understand you feeling gutted as you’ve done so well, but it’s great that they can operate and so quickly too! The quicker they start the treatment the quicker you can recover and put it behind you, and I’m sending you huge healing hugs ahead of next week 💕
