My Recovery Dog .....

Today I went to our local walking group’s annual dog show. They held a special award for dog/owners who have dealt with challenging times. I nominated Lottie as my recovery Dog. When I was really low and it was hard to get up every day, Lottie was my reason. She always had a wag in her tail and a smile for me and gave me that reason to get up. Lottie won the award, here is a picture of us together today. Good memories and I hope they continue. I say Lottie is my little gift from God, sent to look after me x x x

Yes they’re so important to our recovery. Our rescue dog Riz ( Cross German Shepard and collie from Romania ) has definitely helped with both my physical and mental recovery and has given us so much joy.

I lost both my terriers in 2017, the year I was diagnosed. I never thought I could have another dog due to my health but my husband and son thought otherwise. The best decision ever, it got me up and out walking again. So agree that it helps with both our physical and mental recovery x x

I know exactly how you feel. We had never had a dog due to feeling our lives were just too busy. After my diagnosis however I had an overwhelming need to have a dog. In a moment of weakness my husband agreed and it was the best decision we have ever, ever made. The joy our two cockapoo boys have bought to our whole family is unmeasurable. They filled a place in our hearts we didn’t even know was there.

Silly as it sounds I like you do feel they were heaven sent to look after us.

I love dogs & am very tempted. Before OC, I was working & out too much etc. but was brought up with dogs.

So maybe it’s time...I worry about what would happen....but that’s ridiculous I know. I have been looking at Cavapoos & Cavachons 🙂

I was the same and said I wouldn’t have another dog as I didn’t know how long I’d got. My husband and son had other ideas and said there’s two of us - don’t worry we’ll always take care of her. Decision was made!

I worry about taking on a pet, when I don't know what the future holds. I live alone, and last time, when my bowel blocked, I was taken into hospital overnight, and was there for two weeks. My children work full time, and wouldn't want a dog anyway. I have considered a cat, but have the same concerns.

Hi Jenny,

There is a charity that will help in crisis situation like hospital admissions called, ‘The Cinnamon Trust’. Otherwise, as you say, it’s (good) friends or family. My husband would have to step in, but he isn’t really a dog person or at least hasn’t had one before. Lx

Oh what a beautiful pic and well done Lottie! We got a golden lab just after my op and he was supposed to help me recover from my op and keep me company during chemo then be there for my husband after I was gone. We lost him nearly a year ago and I still cant bring myself to get another dog yet because we miss him so much. They are special arent they xx

I had recovery cats, one in particular. I don't have one of my own, but when I used to drag myself out for a walk, even when I was at my most grim, in the midst of chemo, there she was, my neighbour's cat, always so happy to see me and give me a cuddle - she didn't care if I looked like death warmed up, and that I nearly fell flat on my face attempting to bend down to pet her, nor the groan when I tried to stand back up... Dear Poppy! So glad for you and your dear friend, well done and congrats!!! x

What a lovely happy photo ! Well done Lottie X My 2 rescue greyhounds gave me the reason to get up in the morning during my worst days of chemo! Got me walking and got those endorphins going, I always felt better for it. Helped me after my after my op and certainly helped in my recovery . Congratulations Lottie Xx

I can imagine what good company your pup has been-animals really seem to know when we need them. I have 2 cats, and their persistence in keeping routine made sure I got out of bed when I didn’t feel like it, as well as keeping me company one the tough days after chemo.

What a wonderful dog you have . Congratulations to lovely Lottie and warm wishes to you both from my Cavalier KC Bailey and me. He won a rosette for the fig most like his owner but the “ owner” was my 4,yr old granddaughter dressed in. Princess outfit . Bailey joined the fun and wore a princess outfit too. He was my special friend during post surgery and chemo , so loyal and so very caring !

Dogs are amazing.
