I am scheduled to have a uterine biopsy in two weeks and I am scared to death , can’t sleep or eat as I have read so many horror stories about this procedure ( yes I am one of those bad people that googles everything) my uterine lining is thicker than my gumbo would like and awhile back I had a period that lasted 4 weeks that at first was quite heavy , they have since returned to normal . I do have a paratubal cyst that is 5.3cm that hasn’t changed in size in the last three months and isn’t giving me pain so she is going to leave it I also had my gallbladder out a month ago . All of these issues were found in March so it’s been a bit of a whirlwind 😕 but I am honestly terrified of having this biopsy done . I am more nervous about it than I was the gall bladder surgery . Can anyone tell me what to expect ? I know it’s not going to be nice ... she said to take some Advil or Tylenol before hand if I wanted but I have codiene , I wonder if I could take that ?

Hi there.
I had this done, when I had a uterus!
It’s very (very!) uncomfortable. It’s usually ultrasound guided & I could see a polyp that he pointed out (not that I wanted to!). I think entonox would be a good option but unfortunately it wasn’t available! I’d say take any analgesics you can, within reason! ATB x
Thank you . Yes I have been told it’s quite painful 😕 but over quick . Mine will not be ultrasound guided it’s just to get a tissue sample ... so SO not not forward to it in any way . My go worker had it done she said she gasped once and it was over before she knew it . Cramps and spotting afterwards . I think will take the codeine before hand . I will be s bag of nerves that day 😭
Sorry to hear you have had a difficult run with your health, however I can honestly say I have had this procedure twice, I have a thick lining and heavy periods, after a cyst diagnosed they found Adenomyosis, endometriosis ( through a different procedure) I had a large fibroid, and though awkward and a little uncomfortable, it wasn’t so bad 😊
Take care and hoping the procedure and outcome at all good
I had this procedure over 4 yrs ago and was very scared and nervous as I too had heard some horror stories. I never took any painkillers as on that particular day I thought I was just attending a consultation. The doctor had great difficulty actually getting through my cervix and had to use a clamp. I was given a running commentary at the time. I give you the gory details not to scare or frighten you but to reassure you as the procedure was absolutely pain free. I am someone who has to hype themselves up to visit the dentist even for a checkup. It is uncomfortable but very manageable. Hope this helps you. X
I had one prior to my hysterectomy, it’s uncomfortable but manageable I only had slight spotting afterwards but try not to worry it doesn’t take long.
I had a biopsy which I cried and fussed all the way through. Everyone was lovely, a nurse held my hand and the doctor explained everything and told me what to expect.
I can honestly say that afterwards, despite a little discomfort, it was more of a case of 'Was that it?' Honestly pain free.
Hi, I had a uterine biopsy done about a month ago. They offered me freezing at an extra charge. I didn’t feel a thing!
