HiI have just had the first round of taxol chemo for low grade oc. Had it over 3 hours on Monday. Wednesday started to get pains down my thighs which have since got worse. I was directed to local a&e who have put it down to side effects.
Is there a way of dealing with this better as the pain is really getting me down

Are you on weekly taxol or every three weeks? I am L ow Grade also and am on the weekly regimen. The side effects differ somewhat from the every three weeks plan. It's likely fatigue that is causing the pain in your legs. I feel weak and achy for a few days off and on and also have some diarrhea on a couple of days. Did they give you Dexamethazone? That helps with the taxol side effects. I take a low dose once daily and for the two days after taxol, I take an increased dose twice a day. It helps, although it does cause a few side effects of its own!
I had a similar problem after having carbo /taxol 31/2 years ago. I was able to contact the Oncologist who reduced the taxol by 25% and from then on I never had the pains in my legs. If at all possible I would try and contact the Oncologist if you can.
I hope this helps as I know when I had the problem it felt as if I was being stabbed in the legs.x
When I was on taxol, I always had what I referred to as bone pain. But it only lasted for the first 10 days.
However, it was pretty brutal. Mine started in my ankles and worked slowly up my legs to my hips. It was difficult to get comfortable.
It was tolerable, because I was already so sick, that I was bedridden anyway for the first 6 months in treatment.
I took only paracetamol, which helped to take the edge off.
Everyone gets a wide variety of symptoms, from almost nothing to total incapacitation.
I was pretty much a poster child for side effects, from bone pain to extreme fatigue, dizziness, faintness, nausea, everything tasting awful, so desperately searching for something I could eat, etc.
It was worth it though, as it destroyed my cancer at least for a while.
Sounds like how I felt on taxol/carbo. The bone pain was excruciating. I was given nothing for pain and was told to tough it out. I only made it through four doses. The nerve damage was so awful, I could no longer stand on my feet. I was in a wheelchair for 4 months and then transitioned to a cane. That was in 2013. I used the cane until last year when I needed a walker. My side effects have been life changing, but life is the operative. I am still here. 😊 Cancer warrior is the right mindset for me. Wish everyone the best.
That leg pain that started on day 3 after treatment was a total surprise to me. No one warned me about it! After an agonizing 24 hours, I called my doc and he gave me Tramadol. A mild dose but it did the trick. Hot baths and heating pads helped, too. I hate this for you. It isn't fun. Please, please call your Dr or whoever else can help. It's going to happen after each treatment.
As Caleda4 says, a reduction of dose can improve these type of side-effects, (which many get but which the health professionals seem reluctant to admit happen). A reduction doesn’t mean it won’t work, especially as you are low grade. You do need to speak with your Oncologist.
Warm Epsom salt baths helped me, but do try to keep moving, even just gentle exercise will help too. It’s horrible being on steroids but a short dose also helped me.
Beware of taking Tramadol, it’s too addictive, but pain management may mean taking pain relief 4 times a day on a regular basis - can you get yourself referred to a pain clinic?
I hope the pains don’t last, and wish you the very best of luck.
I had this on Taxol. A dose reduction helped. My oncologist gave me oramorph but I found Paramol (available OTC) more effective. It was awful but only lasted a few days.
Nice warm bath always felt great, plenty of water, multivitamin, fruits and veggies, and walking if possible. If you can, think of it as your bones working overtime trying to keep your body and cells healthy, thus a positive thing, though it’s terribly painful and achy. Hope this helps a little. The warm bath is perhaps my best suggestion.
