My Mum just had her Biopsy and Ascites drain yesterday and she is in a lot of pain. The nurses told her she would be and gave her some pain killers, Is this pain from the drain or the biopsy? and will it get better the next few days? They drained more that 8pints.

Biopsy was the worst part for me, the more they prodded me about, the worst I felt.

I had ascites drained over a 2 week period, can’t tell you how much, but, a load, didn't know when it was going to stop.

The pain settled down, what is the next step for mum?

I had the op, then 6 months carbo taxol and am coming up for 5 years clear, I had 1c mucinous oc.

Hope things improve, they just need to get her pain sorted, then come up with a treatment plan.

Glad to hear that she had the ascites drained.

Too bad about the pain. I cannot explain it.

My biopsy was done under a CT scanner with three different and very attractive doctors and technicians, who were very attentive. I don’t remember feeling any pain, but I saw the image of the ugly mass they were examining.

I had no idea that my cancer had grown so large. It turned out that I was riddled with more than 200 smaller nodules inside my abdomen.

Ugh!

But, I am doing well now and I hope your mom gets into treatment soon.

Best wishes,

Laura

Sorry to hear she’s in pain- they should offer oramorph or similar if she needs it- there’s no point in being brave about it, she might as well be comfortable with everything else going on. Hopefully she will soon have a treatment plan and things will calm down xx

I've had two drains and have had pain after both of them, particularly the last one. Mine took nearly a fortnight to settle Hope your Mum's settles soon.

I am pleased she has now started on a plan of care.the pain is probably from both of the procedures. You can imagine how much pressure there has been when they took 8 pints from her. The biopsy too is uncomfortable as they are taking small pieces of the tumours leaving them sore reassuringly the pain will get better over time and feel more bruised than anything else.

Has your mum got a follow up appointment?

Hoping you are all coping with this as best you can and please if you do go the internet go to reputable site, anyone can write anything and put it on the internet.

Sending you all lots of love 💕 hugs 🤗 and positive thoughts xxx

Hello L M Merit

It's the biopsy! I had an ascitic drain twice and felt nothing but relief. The biopsy though, that hurt! I wish your Mum well, comfort and happiness x

I had no pain after the ascites drain (9 litres!) it looks like it’s the biopsy which is the culprit. Hope the pain soon goes away.

Thanks Ladies I have spoken to Mum today and she is at least out of bed. She said she thought she’d feel more comfortable than this after the drain but still can’t even bend down to put her socks on. She said the dragging feeling she had has subsided a bit. The only pain relief they have given her is Ibuprofen and I suppose paracetamol. Her Dr has prescribed laproximol to go alongside ibuprofen. She is also saying she has an ache in the tops of her legs. Is this linked at all?

She still has no appetite and says some things taste too salty (I heard taste buds change with sweetness) but salty? is that a thing too?

Also she was wondering as she was told must do drain first then Biopsy. But they did it the other way round. Does that matter at all?

Finally....A big thank you to all of you for your kinds words and advice. It feels a little bit like driving a car blindfolded. Relying on those of experience to guide you through the route. You have been a lifesaver for me right now. So thank you 🙏

Diagnosed as Serous OC and grade 3C. First Chemotherapy yesterday. Upset about hair loss but very upbeat this morning. How soon will it start to fall out?
