So pleased. After 3 weeks of being too low for chemo my neutrophils have jumped up to 1.99 and I can have my second dose of carbo/caelyx tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who answered my previous post. I really started to wonder if my levels would ever get high enough for more chemo. My oncologist is reducing my caelyx by 25% this time and giving me Piriton to help with the itching and rash. Best news though my ca125 has reduced by 50% after my first treatment . Hoping everyone is having some good things in their day today xx
This is my dog Dylan who looks like he's been up to no good xx

I took Portion for my rash, which was actually caused by the wipes used to clean injection sites and PICC line, then Port insertion - Chlorhexidine is the culprit for me and Piriton was the only thing that worked.
Later, on Caelyx, I occasionally get tiny rashes, just itchy bumps, here and there, and I use my husband’s prescribed steroid cream, Dermovate Ointment, and it clears them up.
My team accepts anything over 1 for Neutrophils, so I usually come in at 1.1 or 1.2 and have not missed an infusion.
My CA-125 is now 15 and my last infusion of Carbo and Caelyx will be on Monday.
I am very excited at how well I have done on Carbo/Caelyx and looking forward to trying Niraparib in April.
Wow that sounds very impressive. A Ca 125 of 15 is incredible. That really encourages me to keep going. I'll try to get some dermovate from somewhere. That sounds good as I've still got some scarring and dryness from the itchy rash I got last time.
I wish you all the very best with your last treatment next week and look forward to hearing about the niraparib.
Dylan is my super dog. He is full of fun and mischief like most spaniels but incredibly loving. When I had my last chemo and was feeling rotten he dragged a blanket across the room in his teeth, falling over it as he tried to manoeuvre it around furniture and then he jumped in the sofa and dropped the blanket on my back and curled up beside me. He realised I needed a warm up!!
I’m so pleased your neutrophils are up and you can have your treatment tomorrow, that’s great news. I had the same problem but I would invariably get a jab to bring them up and then sometimes the platelets would then go down!
Also delighted that it’s obviously working well and your CA125 has plummeted, that’s wonderful. I think Caelyx works well but is obviously tough on the body.
I love the photo of Dylan, dogs are so supportive aren’t they, I think they have great intuition. So happy for you 😀
Thanks Sophia. You sound like the pesky caelyx gave you a run around too. So glad it was so successful for you in the end. You inspire me to keep going.
You're right too about the intuition of dogs. They really are amazing xxx
Gorgeous Dylan! My mum had Caelyx for her second line treatment. After the third dose, her hands became really sore and started cracking. The onc reduced the dose by 20% and everything was OK after that and she was able to carry on with all six doses. Hope tomorrow goes OK. Jane X
Thank you Jane. Yes I've heard that caelyx can be hard on the hands and feet. My oncologist told me that I wasn't to wash up or iron or hoover as any of those could make my hands too hot. I'm also not supposed to drink or eat anything beyond toddler temperature or have a hot bath or shower. She recommended hippy chic - loose flowing clothes! Perfect for Cheltenham weather!!!! This must be a very odd drug indeed!!!
I'm glad things improved for your Mum when they reduced the dose and hope that she is doing well now .
Dylan is gorgeous! What good company for you whilst you are having treatment. When I am feeling really low, my cats are a big source of comfort and come and look for cuddles.
Glad those pesky neutrophils have improved enough for chemo to go ahead again.
Thank you Vicky. Yes I love him to bits. I have a cat too and sometimes one is at one end of the sofa and the other one at the other end. I feel very spoiled. There is no room for my husband or daughters when the two of them stretch out!!!
Great news that your neutrophils levels have picked up and even better that your CA125 is plummeting, those are the numbers that we like to hear!! Good luck with your 2nd chemo session tomorrow 🤗 It’s a tough road and only ladies who have been through it can relate to it I feel. But best of luck to you and keep us posted as your treatment progresses!!
Thank you so much Liz. I am delighted that tomorrow can go ahead but more than slightly nervous about possible side effects as well. It's good to know that I am going along a road well travelled by others like yourself. The support of the ladies on this site is amazing. thank you xx
What a wonderful news your ca 125 ı think your neutropills needs eating raspberry and capari. But be carefull capari is growing up PLT (trombosit) too much.
Oh that’s good news ! I hope the treatment goes well. My oncologist has let me off one taxol only due to low neutrophils but back on track today for combined carbo/taxol with gcsf injections to take home so I’m ok for last two taxol only treatments. He said I can have last one even if neutrophils are down to 1.0.
They take a bashing don’t they! I’m keeping the picc line in just in case another transfusion is needed for a few more weeks as he suggested as platelets can be unpredictable too.
Oh Alex you've really been through it. I'm so sorry but glad you are on track for the carbo taxol today. Sounds like a good idea with the picc line but I really hope you won't need to use it. I'll be thinking of you today as I have my chemo. Virtual chemo buddies! Sending lots of love x
Hello! Great news your neutrofils going up ! That’s terrific I know how worrying it is as mine dropped to point 5 !!and had 4 days in hospital feeling like a half dead slug covered in pellets . Yesterday (18th)week on Paclitaxol my reading was 9,( I’m thrilled ) and have remained strong each week despite a virus and raised temp so just to let you know please have confidence if you can , as I think things will be manageable . Enjoy every good day and spoil yourself whenever possible.
Thank you so much Denise. I love your description of a half dead slug covered in pellets. Sums up the situation perfectly. I'm so pleased that your neutrophils have started behaving themselves at last and that you have stayed strong. I am very impressed and yes I will spoil myself. Sending a big virtual hug xx
Thank you. Yes he is a little sweetheart. I love him to bits even if he did tear apart my husband's new passport when it was put through the door last week.xx
