Nosebleeds

I have uterine cancer that was diagnosed in February, 2017. I started a new regimen of carbo and gemcitabine about 3 months ago. I’ve now started to have nosebleeds. Does anybody else have this issue? And is there anything that you’ve done that helps?

Hello I also had nosebleeds and a swollen throat a few days after chemo . Just finished 3rd cycle of taxol/carbo. I do have piriton infusion prior on chemo day. Oncologist said take piriton tablets , he wasn't concerned , just a bit of sensitivity he said. So I take them on the few days after chemo and works for me. Also if take one before bedtime , makes me sleepy :) hope this helps x

Thank you, Spirit22. I have an appointment tomorrow so I’ll ask my oncologist about taking piriton.

Hi Deb I had nosebleed after carbo-taxel and Avastin. Mostly just annoying but if you feel they are getting worse it’s worth seeing ENT to get cauterisation treatment. I ended up in hospital with major bleed that would not stop. xx

Thank you, Lyndy. They’re definitely getting worse so maybe seeing a specialist is a good idea.

I had nosebleeds and a very dry throat on this regime but I had it with Avastin which is notorious for causing these symptoms. I tolerated the sore throat for ages and then one doc spotted that it was a fungal infection (which didn't look like one). I had a course of antifungal tablets and it cleared straight away.

Any side effect is always worth mentioning to your team. Hope you get it sorted. Xx

Thank you. I begin to feel like I’m the only one to have these weird symptoms.

I get them a lot with carbo/taxol. I have to be so careful with swollen sinuses and I keep a scarf over my nose when I go for a walk. Even get them in the night occasionally. They stop after five minutes usually with a pinch and leaning forward as advised by the nurses.

I do hope it stops at the end of chemo.

Thank you. The nosebleeds have gotten quite bothersome. I also hope they stop after chemo.

Is your blood pressure OK? I assume they check it before every infusion, but I started getting nosebleeds a few months ago and it turned out to be a rise in my BP. Medication sorted it.

Yes, my BP is checked regularly. These nosebleeds are really a nuisance. Thanks for responding to my question.

They really aren't they? I ended up carrying the cotton wool plugs they make for rugby players everywhere!
