Has anybody been having frequent and unexplained nose bleeds while on Avastin, Carbo, Gem combination. I have had to be referred to ENT which I could certainly have done without!!

Oh, join the club of nosebleeds. However, I was referred to an ENT consultant and he cauterised some of the little veins in my nose, and hey ho - problem resolved. Mind you, I still have the runny nose and think all of us with OC should buy shares in Kleenex as we all seem to use so many tissues.

If an option is offered, take it. But it may mean a little break from Avastin - for wash-out period,

I had some nose issues but started Avastin and Gem while on a continuous dose of Nasonex, The sinuses became really bad, three antibiotics and a visit to ent clinic. I agree we dont need the extra curricular activities in the hospital. So ent changed nasal spray and sent me for more bloods to rule out anything else, the mind boggles. They were negative so they told me stop spray altogether and use Neil Med sinus rinses. They keep the nose clear, the nose bleeds werent really bad just one or two noticeable ones. So now my voice is back most times and nose situation is much better. Onc nurse said it wasnt a side effect of Avastin but the ent consultant says it is. But they have to be sure that all is ok. Oh forgot I also got a cream for the nose from ent when it is sore. Its Nasosept. Hope that helps, dont worry but it is something we dont need to do ie more consultants more visits

Thanks for your lovely reply. There is a group of us who are quite upbeat about the trivia! we have to deal with. I'll take a look at the Neil Med product. I find I keep going during the day but obviously there is a build up and I wake up in the night absolutely streaming. I think it is a pity that is no specialist service for the 111 number of paramedics so that a quick question can tell you how to prevent the nosebleeds, the ENT is fine but very specialized, no wonder we use the emergency services for our problems!

I got very bad nose bleeds and when not bleeding a constant runny nose.

My only advice is not to blow too hard, really difficult I know but it will prevent bleeds. I never went anywhere and the runny nose and bleed stopped a few months after I finished Avastin. I wasn't referred anywhere whilst having the bleeds.

Good luck at ENT, Irene xxx

Thanks a lot, it really is a pain! I keep going during the day but the bleed happens at night!

Thanks. I'm sure it is the same for me. I am on an 'extra' course of Avastin etc while I wait for a reply from Professor Gore at the RM for a referral!

Cheers, Gio

I'm on Avastin and also suffered from the bleeds mainly first thing in the morning, and had to be very conscious of how hard I blew my nose, I've had a few during the day also not fun whilst driving down the M1 but like the other ladies I have boxes of tissues everywhere for such occasions.....

I'm 4 months in now and they seem to be much lighter and fewer than before I hope things get better for you also xox

I have very frequent nosebleeds due to Naproxen. It may be a good idea to speak to your GP at a meds review. Xxxx

I had nose bleeds on gem and carbo. I think it's because very thin skin which is renewed quickly on inside of nose. Chemo damages it quickly so slightest thing starts of bleeding. I used to use cold pad which stopped it quite quickly.
