Hi., Thanks for the information. That's why I hadn't heard of it. I do wonder why they aren't trialling it elsewhere, usually a drug is trialled worldwide. I hope you get a response to your question and that your mum does well xx Kathy
Lorraine did try it, but from what I remember she had to withdraw, due to some problems with kidney (?). It is not a chemo, but it’s supposed to reverse platinum insensitivity so that you can get more chemo. They give the drug through a port somewhere in the tummy area.
Please keep us all informed about how this is going. Again from memory, in Australia they do it in Sydney and Adelaide. Which one is your mum’s place?
The internet site quoted by Linda is quite informative, from what I saw when I looked at it some time ago.
My Mum is receiving her treatment in Sth Brisbane ICON. Her trail is 8 Cycles consisting of 3 weeks each of a fixed dose via the IP port weekly and then Chemo will commence at the 3rd Cycle to 8th Cycle.
She has received 3 doses (1cycle) so far and it has been very intense so I was looking for some information from other participants in particular what side effects they experienced.
Mum is very weak and nauseous most of the time which has also resulted in a very rapid weight loss ( close to 10kgs in a month)
I read about that drug trial. It’s reported to target ovarian cancer stem cells , that seem to be responsible for resistance . It seems very promising . Really sorry to hear your mum is finding it tough at the moment . I’m sure it’s very hard to see her going through it. It will be worth it though if she gets a good outcome. I wish your mum and you all the very best , D
Unfortunately my Mothers journey was not a smooth one right from the start. She received 5 doses of Cantrixil and in the process was became very weak & sick. Some of her symptoms included constant Nausea, vomiting, fevers, making her bed ridden at times, weakness, muscle wastage and rapid weight loss. She ended up experiencing very widespread large blood clots in both her legs & lungs and withdrew herself from the trail. Sadly she passed away in early April.
He experience with this trail was not a great one and maybe her Cancer was just too far spread and advanced.
Sorry Grace I would have dearly loved to be sharing a different outcome with you.
