Anybody self funding a Bevacizumab in the uk? I’m thinking it might be a option I have to take. Would like to know what the cost is now. I had it on a trail back in 2016 and had a good result on it. Keep well ladies

Hi Back in 2007/2008 I trialled Bevacizumab (Avastin) and understood the cost to be just over £2,500 per dose, from what I understand the cost has dropped to around £1,800 per dose but not sure if that includes the administering (nursing etc) . Xx Kathy xx

I pay £2166 per dose. It depends on your weight so I am rather annoyed that I have put on about 21 pounds since I was diagnosed ( something to do with the mind set of well if my life is limited I will eat what I want when I want - I have stopped thinking that way as I am still here 2 years on and don't feel too bad at all!!!) I weigh about 11 stone 3lbs. I just pay for the drug, my blood tests and ct scans are still on the NHS thank goodness as I am paying for it out of my savings. They did try to charge me £424 for a blood test but I managed to get it changed but it makes me so grateful for the NHS when I think of how many blood tests and chemos I have had plus 2 operations.

Hope that is helpful for you xxxx

Hi Jenny. Interesting to see it hasn't dropped much in cost. I was around the same weight when I was diagnosed, maybe a few pounds lighter (those were the days!).

How do you get the bloods and CT on the NHS, that would be great if I could. Which Hospital are you at please? 😀

I have it at home which is £300 ish cheaper than the hospital, it now costs £2061 and includes the bloods and the 2 nurses that come out, one comes to take my blood which is couriered to Christies on the Friday then another nurse came Monday to do my Avastin. Only done 1 at home so far but far more relaxing than waiting at the hospital.

Hi Tarbon,

Usually it’s funded for 18 cycles after FLT but not after that. Lx

My oncologist got funding for Bevacizumbab very quickly and easily , ,think it was for three cycles ,only had one because I was due for surgery and Bev can cause blood clots ,I had it along side Paxo and Carbo, ironically I got a blood clot in my lung anyway and surgery was canceled .I live in Lincolnshire.
