Hair loss carbo/gem

I’m on my second cycle of carbo/gem for first recurrence. My hair is coming out in handfuls. The leaflet suggests your hair ‘may thin’ but this is a lot more than I envisaged. As I used the cold cap previously I am very disappointed. Have any of you experienced the same problem? Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear this - the loss of hair is a real distress. I lost mine for the second time in the Autumn, and had it all shaved off when it got too thin. It is growing back now, thank goodness! I felt surprisingly guilty whenever I inadvertently let anyone see me without a cover - stupid but there you are.

I never had a wig, but I believe some people swear by them. Good luck.

I’m on the same drugs for second cycle, too. I’ve lost about 3/4 of my hair. I’ve three months of treatment done but lost most of my hair after the first & second Carbo infusions. It has slowed down since. I wasn’t warned about it either.

I’m still doing a little bit of work now and then so I’m wearing these:

EEVASS Women's Elastic Slouchy Beanie Hat Headwear Multi-Purpose Bandanas (# C, 2) amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FDTWGQW/...

I wear them like a hair band and because I’ve bits of hair sticking out here and there it doesn’t shout out that fact that I’m on chemo.

Hi Cheryl. I just finished the same treatment prior to Christmas. Was told my hair would thin, but as with you I lost heaps on my head, plus all of the fine hair on my body, e.g arms, legs, eyelashes etc. the head hair loss was the worst, I would rather have lost the lot again. I had my haircut really short, and went for special scalp treatment sessions. I also bought special shampoo/conditioner for hair loss. I am now 6 weeks down the track, and my scalp hair is thickening up, and my other hair has come back. Best of luck Therese

My scalp is sore andI have a persistent headache to one side. I lost most of my body hair first time round and over half my hair even with the cold cap. No leg hair is a bonus. Trying not to wash my hair too often but I feel a wreck. I just have to accept it and hope that the chemo is doing it’s work but it is depressing having just grown back the hair loss from before and I didn’t expect it. It seems such a trivial thing in the big scheme of things.

Hello, I too used cold cap and had good results, just finished 6 rounds of carbo/taxol. In September. In January had prolapse repair and bladder lift and they found a less than 1cm tissue, came back positive ( it was near sacrum) My 1rst recurrence ) So next week I start carbo/gem .... was worried about hair loss so I mam going to use caps again. My Dr said wouldn’t need caps cuz only some thinning but not taking any chances. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this after using cap😟. What other symptoms come with the Gemzar being added added? Any neuropathy? Sickness? Fatigue? And he may also add Avastin don’t know anything about side effects from that ..

I am sending HUGS and 🙏🏻 God Bless
