Christmas part 2

Well after so looking forward to Christmas I thought I’d update hope my writing produces entertainment

My daughter decided to take over cooking. And it’s been an experience. Firstly we had drama about the spuds not browning. Next she dropped the tray with roasted parsnips and carrots. She forgot to cook the greens and burnt the pigs in blankets and stuffing. In between all this she had hissing fits about her cooking been crap. My poor son Who has autism went to hide in a corner of the room. Bless his socks he did his best to try and eat the meal his sister had done. I thought we’d have a nice meal but at least it was different Just as well that we all love each other at least the Christmas pud and sauce was ok

Goodness knows what the next meal will bring I can hardly wait to find out Aotter

As my mother always said “It ‘s better to laugh than cry.” At least you’re together! Happy holidays!

She’ll get better. Cooking a Christmas meal first time can be quite daunting. As long as she works out why the potatoes didn’t brown in time. A list with timings might help, so she wouldn’t have forgotten the green veg. I tick off things as I do them and have timers set for everything. Although must say my mother used to manage without any of this.

Hope today’s meals are better. Enjoy!

As January-2016-UK suggests, a list might help.

My mother wrote herself a list twenty or so years ago when she ran a pub and had to cater for upwards of forty diners. She still uses a version of it. Everyone is banned from the kitchen while she works. She brings out veg to be peeled and prepped to those helping in another room. She always remembers to cook everything but these days is a little forgetful and may forget to serve everything all at once. This has led to the 'two-plate' dinner where we get a second course of all the things she has forgotten. Sprouts and gravy, one year.

I fear my cooking is quite similar to your daughter's. We live in Manhattan and thank goodness just about everything can be ordered to be delivered!!!! (I DO try but I think my family eats what I make to make me happy!) You are a very smart woman to let your daughter help that way and how sweet of your son and all to eat what she made :-) oxox

Aaww she did really well- I remember how daunting it was the first time I was left on my own to cook the turkey- had to keep phoning my brither- in- law. Also managed to ruin a big platter and destroyed my mum's pressure cooker. One year after cooking a pudding that had been made the year before we served it up to find it was full of mould.

She tried her best, bless her. This year we had Christmas dinner in my house without roast potatoes😳

Once I get involved with the dinner, I lose track and when I get singing and dancing ( may be a glass of wine involved) in the kitchen (boredom), (hate cooking), anything can happen.

Have to say, if they don’t like it, they can cook it themselves👍❤️😂xx

Do you know something, my cousin was going for a pub dinner yesterday with her partner and that is fine too. I am after having two dinners in a row and having pizza tomorrow

Bless her for offering to cook the dinner💖 The first time I did Christmas dinner (28 years ago) we had mash instead of roast because I overdid the parboiling. And there have been many, many hiccups over the years!

There’s a wonderful Royle Family Christmas Special where Denise and Dave cook Christmas dinner, maybe watch it together and laugh xxx

Reminds me of one of my first attempts at the full works! Oven broke down half way through cooking the turkey! Ended up with eggs and bubble and squeak for Xmas dinner! Threw the turkey away after making a curry from what I felt was salvageable which we had for Boxing Day!

I did get better and managed to cook and serve a hot and tasty meal for 11 of us this year! X

Aw, how sad for your Daughter!! Let's hope it hasn't put her off for life. She was probably mortified. Had to have a little chuckle, though, took me back to my Daughter having hissy fits when she was young. The three boys never did, though. ( Mind you, there are times, nowadays, when I'd like to have a hissy fit sometimes. My husband hides in the study at such times, lol!!) Glad the pud was good and your son came out from the corner and you could all eat together. 🤗

Love, Solange 😊

Well I survived dinner to be fair she did well considering she has dyslexia and dyspraxia. The pudding was nice. And the cocktail she made was yummy

Anyway onto part two. All Christmas night I kept hearing some jingle musics I kept checking my son in his bed. Each time I went in there was no music. As I lift the room I hear my son giggle. This went on numerous times. I later found out that his sister had bought him some musical socks which he kept moving his feet to play the mysic and he pretend to be asleep when I went into the room. It only stopped once the batteries ran out. I certainly got my steps in. This Christmas was different and one I won’t forget. I’m so glad

To have been part of it. I so love my time with my great family I never get bored

Hope everyone has a great Xmas

I can’t wait to see what new year brings

Your Daughter did do well, then! Must have been hard not to "help" (i.e. in interfere, in Daughter's eyes, maybe !! lol)

The sock story gave me a real chuckle to start the day with, thank you. 😊
