Cancer spillage.

Hi folks..kind of scared here after surgery..i had a very large ovary tumor which was stage one until it ruptured taking it out. They removed bot over us, my cervix, my tubes, my appendix, my colon flap, took biopsy of everything and lump nodes..So nothing else had cancer but because of the spillage,I am I think a stage 1c1. They want to do 3,sessions of chemo in a,month...wow should I worry? My Son being a RN says I have a high rate of survival for 5 years..i am hoping they can kill those tiny cells that spilt...Anyone have similar experience? Oh my surgery was 7 hours long...no fun it's been 13 days...

Hi,

I was 1c and had ascites, so, cancerous liquid going around my insides, lovely.

I had all that you have had removed, chemo, carbo/taxol for 3 weeks out of ever 4 over 6 months and I am still here 4 years later.

Don’t worry, I sailed through, of course we are not all the same, but it is do able and if you need tips to cope there is always someone on here, or I don’t mind if you pm me,

Yes, it did, my son shaved my head, but before that I got a couple of amazing wigs and a variety of hats.

My hair has grown back better than ever and is a white blonde which I have cut into a pixie cut.

No biggie, you will be fine, you have to be, no choice,

I think these ruptures aren't uncommon. I was initially diagnosed 1b, but this was clarified to 1c because mine had too. I didn't have as much surgical exploration as you ( no lymph nodes for instance). Surgery for me was followed by 6 cycles carboplatin, taking the best part of 6 months. This was 8 years ago. Weekly chemo regimes seem to have become more common in this time. If they're proposing only 3 weekly sessions of chemo in a single month, you're getting off lightly! Or is this the model, but over a longer period?

I think they always propose chemo after there's been a spillage, to try to mop up any cancer cells which escaped. So don't worry about it, just get on with it and don't assume it will be awful.

I've had more treatment since but am generally pretty well.

Hi I had a similar experience, had a large cyst with a tumour on the left ovary, it actually ruptured on the way to the theatre! So diagnosed as stage 1c2 and had six cycles of carboplatin to mop up that was two years ago now and been well ever since. Just had a check up last week. I didn’t find the chemo too bad, no sickness just made me feel very tired. Good luck keep feeling positive thoughts you are in a very good place! Happy Christmas, enjoy yourself! x

My primary tumour also ruptured during surgery in February 2008, & I was diagnosed stage 1c. Two years later, I had a recurrence, & more surgery - that tumour also ruptured. I've been told it's very common with ovarian cancer. It's now nearly 11 years since that initial surgery, & I'm feeling well. Di

Hello,

It is nice that you only need three sessions! I am stage 1c too, and I had an exploratory surgery followed by 6 chemos (taxol and Carbo) every three weeks.

I got my wigs ready as soon as I felt better after the surgery. My hair started falling off after the second chemo over the span of just a week. I had my husband to shave my hair short so I didn’t have to clean up my hair literally everywhere in the house. Good luck!

Well my oncologist was torn between 3 or 6. She ended up going with 3 and I hope it's enough to do the job fatter the spillage I had taking out the huge tumor...i might call her back...the tumor was stuck to organs it was so big it just adhered to them but the pathologist said he thinks the cancer was capsule in the tumor...Geez I hope so...it did break and spill live cancer cells so ? I mean who wants chemo but I don't want to be short changed either....i sure hope she is making the right call...She did say wellness checks every 6 months after chemo.

That’s awesome! My doc originally said 3 chemos but I ended up getting 6 at last. I am being monitored every three months now.

It's heartening to read all the positive posts. This week 3 years ago I had a ruptured malignant cyst during Christmas. (Surgery previously scheduled for Jan 8) Had to wait 10 days for my surgeon to return from holidays. Had everything removed (1c2)and 6 cycles of carboplatin. I am sooo grateful for my good health today. 2016 was a tough year.But 2018 was fantastic. I feel stronger,happier and healthier .i keep fit eat well and appreciate the life i have. I take nothing for granted and Thank God ever day for my good health cause i know how easily that rug can be pulled out from under you.
