Hello everyone ibiza got cancelled thanks to this lovely desease.

I spent two nights on a trolley in a&e

After having the last six months well then boom two days before my hols.

Debilitating cramps and vomiting ct scan and X-ray done no blockage they think possibly scar adhesions?

But I’m thinking food allergies...?

This happened after eating Italian meals x 3 as we did not go ibiza we thought splash out. And I’m thinking this is a cause mentioned it to christies last week they have referred me to a nutritionist. Pasta is my fave meal 😢

Hi Zena

Lovely to hear from you glad you are (mostly) doing well x. I had bowel adhesions and blockage unfortunately in July after my Lindon surgery similar time to you in January but all sorted now after an op xx. My daughter (another nurse) said it is quite common to get sensitivities to foods after bowel surgery such as gluten intollerence. Not had any myself though, take care

Diane, Sorry to hear of your blockage/adhesions - what a bummer. But glad you ok now.Do you think your blockage was down to certain foods you were eating? Hope you ok otherwise! Look after yourself. Gwen xx

No not down to food although i do suffer with the dreaded constipation lol it was scar tissue adhesions he just cut them and it all started up again xx sounds easy but 2w in hospital lost a stone in weight (now back on 🙈) etc ..

Eeek sounds painful.

My ct scan and X-ray shows bowels all fine it’s very odd so I’m thinking food intolerances?

HI Betty, I have to careful really with what I eat and can get somewhat constipated. I do find a stool softener am and eve. helps a lot generally. I do have a lot of homemade soup and porridge and think these really help keep my bowels working

2 weeks in hospital Diane - wow that's a long time to be in. Which hospital was it? Hope you feeling somewhat better! Gwen xx

Hi Zena, sorry to hear about your holiday. I know how you feel as I had the same thing a week before my holiday last year. I was also told it was scar tissue. No one has ever mentioned anything about what I can eat or what I can't and I couldn't get to see a nutritionist so I carry on regardless. They said it could come back at any time but as time goes on I forget all about it.

Hope you get it sorted out and can get another holiday booked soon. Love, the other Zena x

Aww hello lovely yep they practically said that to me one of those things.... I’m talking to you having mild cramps tho as I’ve took tramadol it’s took the edge off I’m just shattered Phil’s bak at work tommorrow and I’ve got Ellie.

The pain to me is worse than surgery post op it’s vicious fast and stabbing pain takes my breath and leaves me exhausted, my neighbor next door a lovely teacher she is gluten free and her symptoms are just like mine x

Did you have a bowel resection as part of your surgery? I think that can affect the function of your bowel and it is possible to develop food intolerences.

I found this it might be helpful

I suffer really bad cramps and pain if I have anything with peppers in even finely diced, since I had my stoma. I can’t tolerate sweet corn either as it doesn’t break down it can stick on the way through and takes ages to be pushed along. Peanuts hurt sometimes too so I just avoid these things.

I also have to be really careful I don’t have veg everyday

There will be things that you can’t tolerate it’s just trial and error

Yes I’m guessing it’s pasta and sauce as it’s happened 3 times it’s weird as I’ve had pasta once and been fine. But it’s soo debilitating I am on floor x

I have an ileostomy and was fine for ages then I started with pain - cramping and burning that started few hours after meal - CT scan showed two hernias and onc talked about adhesions - saw boerl surgeon and feeling is that the likelihood is of making things worse with surgery so I just.take buscopan as needed and avoid things like mushrooms and sweet corn in case of a blockage - I’m sure that our intestines become more sensitive after surgery so it may be that’s made you more intolerant of gluten x

Hi yes it’s horrid pain I can’t describe I took tramadol it did not touch me.

I had ct scan all clear. They said possibly adhesions but it’s one of those things ...!?

I find it weird how it happens the day after I’ve had pasta on 3 occasions x

Having to cancel two days before the holiday is just mean. Hope your bowels calm down and the two of you manage to reach an agreeable understanding soon about what you can eat without suffering afterwards. Xx. Maus

Since having my bowel resection I have to be very careful of certain foods. Brocolli and cauliflower go straight through me, literally five mins after eating them. I've also noticed terrible wind after eating certain foods i.e. peppers and yoghurt and grapes. It's all very strange lol x

Oh Zena, What a shock to read of your bowel issues and having to cancel your holiday, what a b........ shame. Glad your scan was clear and no blockages. Pasta!!! I think I had an issue with pasta couple weeks back - first time I'd had pasta since op. but thought it was just my imagination - bowel seemed slower than usual and a little cramp. I shall certainly watch myself next time I have pasta!! Gluten intolerance - never gave it a thought!!! Glad you seeing a nutritionist - keep us updated. Gwen xxx

Hi again Zena,

I'm ok. Yours and your parents thoughts are reciprocated. We in France at moment - t.his is our 3rd week here in the Lot having just sold our house here. So have lots to do and stuff to bring home. We've had lots of coffee/ice cream breaks in the lovely sunshine here though. I'm at the Christie next Thursday for a scan and review following Thursday. Will be in touch. Look after yourself. Gwen xx

Hi Zena - i can’t tolerate any of the foods listed above although pasta yes, but I was told it might be gluten. I eat a lot of rice and cooked root veg, no fruit st all. I hate it but seems to be the only solution- keep us posted. Nicola

My digestion has just deteriorated over the years. Try simple foods and build up slowly, but its really hard. Hot water bottle for the cramps?? xx

Coldethyl profile image

Buscopan which is available over counter in U.K. helps with cramps - I was prescribed it post surgery and during chemo - still use it now occasionally as sometimes bowels and stoma aren’t playing same tune - adhesions can cause narrowing of small intestine and this can lead to sub acute obstructions which can make things feel crampy - a warm bath might help along with eating little and often - I know if I have a big meal now I feel worse afterwards - think even without food sensitivities , of you think how pasta sticks together in pan that it can be heavy on the digestion x

Thinks makes soo much sense!! And that is how I feel. Thank you. I’m currently eating little and often. I’ve had toast then soup then cottage cheese and crackers then apple banana xx
