Yesterday I received a call from my CNS saying that they needed to see me in clinic today.
(I have recently had a 1.4 cm lung lesion on my CT which subsequently lit up on a PET scan. Last week I was advised that I was being referred to a lung surgeon for biopsy or removal as they believed this was a separate cancer)
Well..... my scans had been referred to the lung team as promised and discussed at their MDT last Friday. Their thoughts are that this is a possible lung infection and that a plug of mucus has become stuck. I am now prescribed steroids and strong antibiotics for 5 weeks with a rescan in 7 weeks.
I am so relieved and praying that this is what this is. I have had mucus and a dry cough problems on and off for the last year.
A strange but welcome turn of events. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I feel very relieved after last week feeling absolutely devastated. What a roller coaster of a ride this is.

Hi, I really hope that this turns out to be an infection , it would be great news . How times have changed for us teal sisters , delight at getting an infection !. Fingers crossed for you xx Julia
This is definitely a welcome turn of events and I’m keeping everything crossed that it is all due to a lung infection that clears up nicely with antibiotics 🤞🙏🏻
Fingers crossed this turns out to be what the experts think!
Jeez think we should all be allocated a stress and anxiety counsellor as soon as we are diagnosed with this bloody fdisease! The rollercoaster we are put on really isn’t any fun for us or our families!
Wishing you the most luck and hoping the steroids and antibiotics do the trick xx
Fingers crossed for good news for you. I’ve had something similar in the bottom of my lung for the past couple of years plus the mucus/dry cough which the lung specialist says is nothing “sinister” so will be good to know if your new drug regime solves the problem for you. All the best Jo 🌺🌼🌸🌻🌹
Great news.... they're the specialists in understanding what they're looking as, so let's hope they're right.
In the general public, I certainly have heard of residual stuff in lungs lingering on.
Over a period of 2 years I had many CT scans (some routine), VQ tests etc because they saw suspicious pleural thickening and I had repeated chest infections. These tests were carried out at two hospitals with no conclusion. I went to a specialist Regional Lung Centre and they immediately looked at the scans and diagnosed Bronchiectasis. They a prolonged period of antibiotics and further permanent, low dose antibiotics and I feel 100% better than I did lungwise. Hope your conclusion is just as successful. Take care.
Hopefully the antibiotics do the trick and that’s the end of it - scans throw so many things into the mix and they often turn out to be of no clinical significance after scaring us witless xxx
That’s great news. I was told I had extensive lung involvement but a second opinion suggested the 1.7mm lieison could be fatty tissue. It hasn’t changed colour or size and apparently if it lights up it can still be infection or fatty tissue. I’m none the wiser with mine but it’s been nearly two years
