At last. I got a bed and draining took place. They’ve only drained three and a half litres (so far) but I feel much better. Hoping I can now eat as the fluid was making my acid have nowhere to go, hence me being sick every day. I’m sooooo looking forward to being able to eat a whole meal.
Love to you lovely ladies xxxx

Hi Kathy. Aww thank you I am. I just want to eat without being sick. Might go out for a nice meal. Treat myself.
Hopefully this will help with the acid and hernia now.
Bit worried about it coming back as I’m on chemo and chemo is supposed to stop ascites. My tumour markers are at 4,000 too. Highest they’ve ever been. Bit worrying.
You should treat yourself to a mice meal of your choice! . Hopefully the chemo will kick ass and those numbers and the ascites will reduce. Everything crossed for you xx Im doing ok, thanks xx Kathy xx
Hooray!
I must say you look very glam for someone who's been having the time you've been having. ....
I think I'd steer clear of the mouse meal Katmal suggests, but anything else which takes your fancy, go for it. x
So glad you have been drained, and hoping you can enjoy a good meal now without the pain & sickness.
My acseties is still with me not as bad now but I have had 7 weekly taxol infusions I was hoping it would of all gone by now but the Doc says it can take a while as we only getting smaller doses of the drug weekly. I'm hoping it's the same for you and given time the taxol gets a grip on it XoX
Thank you, I'm hoping so to its just so flipping uncomfortable isn't it..
I'm hoping another couple of doses helps us both and we can just get on with fighting the bugger with out the added drama of ascities. Take it easy this weekend, and I hope you get to enjoy some good food now the tummy has been drained xxxx
Oh, that looks painful to me. I'm really pleased that it's out of you though. It's weird how the body makes all that stuff. I've never had any, but I expect that to change one day. Your numbers should certainly drop now, as far as I've read, so that will lift your spirits no end.
Stuff yourself stupid with your meal and have an extra mouthful for me. Favourite pud is Spotted Dick - completely unavailable in France. Either that or jam roly poly. Can't you tell I'm an old bird?
I love those puds too. My favourite is sticky toffee pudding or syrup sponge...both with tonnes of custard 😋 Am I an old bird on younger shoulders?!?! 🤔
Oh yes, syrup sponge and custard. Yummy. My mother used to get jam sponge. It came in a foil container and she had to stand it in water half way up to cook it. Can't remember who made it but it was lush. Funny how we remember these silly things. Xxxxx
Hope that drain is doing it’s job and you are feeling better. Get the menus out and start planning that meal 😋😋 xjenny x💐🥩🍟🍔🍗
I am so looking forward to a good meal. I fancy a curry but not sure that’s wise with my hernia and acid reflux. I could try though. Lol.
Hugs xxx
Hi Suzanne - I had 5.5 ltrs drained and lost 5 inches of my waist and went down a cup size?? Felt so much better afterwards. Enjoy your meal, my hosp dinner wasn't half bad. Lyn x
Your very welcome its a lovley photo of you. I know you would rather have you photo took on a nice beach . I would rather be on a different forum to this but unfortunately i am here and the ladies on here are great i am such a whimp i am stilling waiting the fear is awful sorry for rambling lol
This forum is somewhere none of us want to be. Thank goodness though that the ladies here are nothing short of amazing. We are all in this together. Our journeys are similar.
You are not a wimp. Not atall. It’s normal to be scared. It is a frightening illness.
Thank you. Ascites is horrible. It exhausts you and makes you feel wretched. I e had it done three times now. I’m hoping my remaining chemo keeps it away now.
I am really looking forward to having a good meal.
Ah Suzanne, so glad you got sorted, Ascites is not very nice I had the same problem in Feb but thank god chemo done its job, hopefully this will sort you out, you look amazing ...... Enjoy your meal.
Thank you Jo. I’m so looking forward to eating something. I fancy a curry but maybe I’ll eat something a bit plainer as I’ve still got acid reflux. Xx hugs xxx
I’m so pleased you got a bed, you look gorgeous, it’s good they’ve been able to drain some of the fluid out and that you feel a little better and fancy some food. I can only imagine the relief for you. I’ve not had ascites but my tumour was 30cm encased in a cyst which was likened to a 6 month gestation embryo by my surgeon, it caused me to have awful acid, nausea and vomiting (the hypercalcaemia played its part in that too 🤢) so I do understand the rubbish way you have felt, I am so pleased you feel a little better. Say hi to your feet and I hope you are able to see them for a long time to come. Enjoy your 🐭 meal love (sorry Kathy, it was too good to let go) xx ❤️Xx Jane
Hi Jane. Aww thank you. I’m soooo looking forward to a nice meal. Wow your tumour was big. You must have felt bloody awful. That acid is horrible. Causes pain and sickness.
Hi Etakeloop, my endocrinologist told me that the hypercalcaemia was a direct result of my cancer, my thyroid was fine. Once I’d had my surgery the hypercalcaemia went after a relatively short time. It’s an unpleasant disorder, it’s side effects were not very nice at all and the knowledge that it was seeping calcium from my bones into my blood was a bit scary long term and in itself could possibly be life limiting if untreated. Fortunately I’ve had bone scans both before and after the surgery and chemo and my bones seem fine for a 60+ year old. I hope your team find answers for you ❤️Xx Jane
It’s such a huge release isn’t it? Wishing you all the very best, I’m sure you will be enjoying food again very soon. X
As usual Suzanne--you even make headwraps look glamorous! I can't believe the amount in that bag next to you and you say that's not all of it--you poor thing! Yes a good meal--as I recall, you crave a few things that you should be able to have now and go for those things and more--enjoy every minute. Have your doctors had their say about why they think your numbers are up during treatment? Obviously not stopping it sounds like a good sign. I would be worried too Suzanne but they have seen all this before so hopefully monitoring you for next steps if different steps are needed. Hugs to you. oxoxo Judy
Aww thank you. I like my bandanas. I’ve got a bit of hair but resemble a fluffy chicken with alopecia.
They drained three and a half litres altogether. I’m home now.
My other half took me to mc Donald’s. I had half a cheeseburger and six chips. I had some milkshake too. Only thing is I was sick in the car after. Luckily I had the milkshake cup with me. It’s this acid. I felt really low after.
I will see what my oncologist says as my nurse will speak to him next week.
I was thinking of you earlier and wondering did you get sorted, hope you are much relieved the drain brings back awful memories to me from the plural effusion, hope you can eat now again and ca 125s go down for you, hope you get home soon positive thoughts xx Clare
Hi Maus. Aww I’ve been there. No lashes, no brows. I think I’m on my way again there now. West different coloured eyeliner and matching earrings. A lady in boots taught me to draw eyebrows too. Took me a while to perfect. Lol.
Suzanne, So glad that you were able to have the drain and are home and well on your way to feeling better! Once the acid reduces you’ll be able to enjoy lots of good meals. Best wishes that everything keeps improving! 😊💕
Hi Suzanne good news that you are feeling better and the fluid had been successfully drained, you must be happy to be at home now! I hope things settle down for you and you manage to start enjoying your food again soon, and the chemo starts doing the trick for you, sending big hugs Xx
Suzanne, I am so,so pleased for you that you are having the ascites drained. Here,s hoping that it deals with the sickness and you can enjoy a meal. It has been a while now since I had to have ascites drained and how trying to eat a mouthful of food was impossible. I HOPE you get to enjoy a meal soon. Really sorry this is happening to you. I what to say something inspiring and profound but all I can say I hate this bloody disease and the wonderful women it is affecting.Love Chris
Can’t read all the advice, but has anyone suggested Omaprezole ?
I had ascites drained over a 2 week period, sickness and loss of appetite and was given them one tablet a day, stopped feeling sick and return of appetite in a day, just a thought
Yes let hope it's a blip keep positive, it really is the gift that keeps on giving. I am ok at the moment on carbo only for 3rd recurrence, I have had 4 so far then I am to have a scan and if all well parp inhibitor for maintenance fingers crossed. Stay strong don't let the bugger beat you! Pam x
Hi Pam. I hope the carbo is doing it’s job. I can’t hsve carbo. I’m allergic to it. I’m in taxol for my second recurrence. Then my Consultant wants to put me on niraparib but I don’t think the taxol is working as my CA125 is 4,000. Plus the ascites is an indicator of active cancer.
You’ll soon get the PARP inhibitor. They’re supposed to be really good.
I’m glad they managed to get you sorted, and I hope you are feeling *even* better this morning? I agree with the other ladies - for someone lying in a hospital bed having a drain done, you do look very glamorous 🤩
Hopefully now that it’s gone, it stays gone! I’m wondering whether I will end up needing a drain at some point (not had one before) as I think I’m starting to get ascites now 😒
Aww thank you but I don’t think I look glam. Must be a fluke. Lol. If my bandana wasn’t on I’d have looked like Einstein. Fuzzy bits of hair sticking up. 😂
Aww I hope you’re not getting ascites. It’s horrible. It seems to be the thing I get. They can see the fluid with an ultrasound so you don’t have to have a CT scan or anything. Try and get it drained. Don’t leave it. It can build up very quickly. All I do when I have it is lay down. I barely leave my bed or the sofa.
Tummy hurts a bit after but it’s great to get rid of the fluid.
Thank you! I’ll have a better idea after my MRI on Monday, and I can discuss it with the trial team next Thursday. I’m wondering if the trial drug might be a bit of a ‘slow burner’ too, so I imagine I could find myself feeling worse before I feel better. If that might be the case, then I’ll definitely make sure a drain happens if I need it. During first round chemo, the drugs started zapping it right away, so that although my CA125 barely move between round 1 and 2, my tummy decreased in size by about 4”.
Yes. See what they say. The procedure itself doesn’t hurt. It’s quick. It gets uncomfortable when you’re laying there and you move around. They give you paracetamol. I pulled mine out accidentally. It had pretty much finished draining at that point though.
Let us know how you get on. Good luck lovely lady. Xxxxx
Glad you’ve had your drain - hope you soon start to feel better. I had 5 litres drained before my first treatment .... it’s horrible isn’t it? I’ve now got terrible acid like you and I’ve just had a ct scan so hopefully they will see what’s going on. I’ve got a hernia too under my Stoma so maybe it’s that forcing the acid up. I’m taking 2 omeprazole a day and gabiscon. It’s bearable and I’m still hungry at the moment. Hope you have a better weekend x x x
Yes ascites is an awful thing. Acid is horrible too. My hernia is big. Like a giant lump coming out under my ribs. I think the hernias do force the acid up. I take lanzoprazole as it’s supposed to help my oesophagus as that’s inflamed.
I hope you start to feel better soon. Sending you a big hug xxxx
You are really having a tough time and I feel terrible for you.
I know from experience that without destruction of the cancer in your belly, the Ascites will just build up again.
I hope they can find a chemo that can do this.
In the meantime, I would take an Omeprozole (or whatever they have given you) 30 minutes before trying to eat anything and before turning off your bedside lamp at night.
Mine are just 25mgs each, but during chemo, I took at least 4 a day an sometimes more. Otherwise, yes, food would just pop back out as soon as I fell asleep. It helped with nausea and I combined it with Cyclazine.
I am wishing you better luck with whatever they throw at you next.
Yes this is my worry. I’ve had seven taxol (weekly) so fluid shouldn’t be building up. I think the tumours are growing. Maybe I need another type of chemo.
I will take omaprazole. I’ve got a box of them. They can only help.
So glad you are feeling better and looking so glam!! Enjoy that meal too, must be great to feel able to eat again. Keeping fingers crossed that the chemo will stop the fluid building up again. Xxx
Thank you. I’ve not eaten a full meal yet. I had a bit of grilled fish last night. I was sick a few times but it’s just acid coming up. Hoping I improve today.
Thanks Suzanne I’m not doing too bad and had second dose of carboplatin yesterday. Hoping it calms my bloated gurgling belly down soon, it’s like one of those big water coolers when it lets the air back in lol! Hugs to you too xxx
Oh, you didn't have a good time after the drain and here's us banging on about roly polys and spotty dicks. Sorry sweetie. Hope you feel better soon xx ,
Glad to hear you're finally getting relief. When I had ascites my 2 doctors kept telling me it was gas. I went to hospital and got ct scan and confirmed cancer was back. My ca125 was 25,000...no typo... I am still here and I'm sure you will be too. My first draining removed 10 pounds of fluid, I remember the wonderful feeling of no pain and the desire to eat everything so I hope you enjoyed yourself. Keep us posted.
That was a little more than 1 1/2 years ago. I was given carbo, taxol, and cisplatin. The cisplatin was given to me through a stomach port. It was awful but I made it through. I had recurrence in january of this year and finished last chemo in June. Ca125 is 59 now. Going on parp inhibitor in about 30 days. I'm waiting for my open wound to heal. Chemo opened up my suture line for breast reconstruction fix from 11 years ago. I am waiting approval from insurance to do hyperbaric chamber to close the wound as it's been classified as a non healing wound at this point. It's been hell, I will not lie. I have to bandage it 24/7 as the fluid drains out. I want to do the parp so I don't have recurrence. Hope all goes well for you, Suzanne.
You look so relieved already now that the fluid is being drained. I remember so well nearly 8years ago having 8litres of fluid drained and the absolute bliss of being able to eat properly and to walk properly instead of waddling, like a duck !
I just want to wish you good decisions , good treatment and NED at the end of it all. Take care
I’m still not feeling great though. I’m still being sick. I guess it’s the acid. My tummy feels very sore and tender.
Being as I had ascites while on chemo and my CA125 rose to 4,000 while on chemo, I’m thinking my tumours are growing. Is this what could be keeping me in my bed and making me sick?
