PPC first time surgery

My first time PPC grade 3 was diagnosed in Lakeland Florida. The doctor acted like he new what it was and what to do. Said I needed surgery quickly. Said to trust him but no guarantee the outcome. He did not mention the hipec treatment, only what he did as standard routine. After the surgery he did chemo. I was left with all kinds of side effects. Never recuperated before I started to feel again things inside me before a year was up. He kept telling me not to worry. He would not do any x Rays of any kind no matter what I told him how I felt. I had no idea that he was going to do surgery by visual only. That means he was going to miss and leave a lot of cancer behind which he did. He kept telling me the ca125 was good down to 7. But as soon as the chemo was over it came back up. Don't trust ca125 only. Anything a doctor cuts check also, such as liver, panceas, muscle, etc at every blood work done. A doctor who does not use hipec treatment when they go in will miss a lot of cancer and jeopardize your health.

Mariahmd, are you able to get to Tampa? Look up Dr Rutherford at TGH; he does HIPEC. Get a consult to see if you're a HIPEC candidate.

Best regards 🦋

What is Hipec please? I keep record of anything new I know nothing about......just in case!!

I am in UK & had a world class gynaecologist/ oncologist surgeon in South of England, July 2015.

Started re-purposed drug regime immediately, 6 Chemo from 3 weeks later, including 5 Avastin.

Doing well. & terribly sad this is going so badly for you. Xx

This is when chemo is washed through the abdominal cavity. It is not usually used for ovarian cancer. I am at Christie and did ask befor surgery. Told that it may be something considered in the future but wasn’t available for patients at present

Dear Sherrym, HIPEC is when they fill your abdomen cavity with a selected chemo that fits the type of cancer you have, of course your doctor will do standard debulking surgery first then move on to HIPEC treatment. The doctor determine that my cancer started on my peritoneal, so he called PPC. He could have called it Ovarian cancer since these organs are made of the same cells. In my first PPC surgery the doctor did not do HIPEC only surgery and that's why it came back quickly in less than one year. He miss so much because no one can see where all the cancer cells are visually. This is where the HIPEC comes in and gets to the cancer cells they will miss. So my doctor called it REOCCURANCE but I have a different opinion. Please do your home work don't trust your doctor 100%. Be careful when they ask you if you would like to sign up for clinical trails. I have a friend that had HIPEC done 17 years ago no chemo she had PMP stage 4. The doctor was DR. Sugarbaker in Washington DC hospital. He was one of first doctors to use HIPEC. OH, Peritoneal or Ovarian cancer is not a rare cancer disease a lot of people have it.
