Hello ladies,

In my earlier post I stated that my mum's CA 125 was increasing 5 to 10 to 11.6 in span of 6 months. Also last month ultrasound showed multiple focal lesions on her spleen. Doc prescribed megace 40mg thrice a day also due to increased blood sugar lever 1000mg metformin.

To our surprise CA 125 droped to 6.3 in one month. Does anybody have the same experience?

Best wishes

Anjali

I wonder if you know that the normal range of CA125 can be up to 35, so be reassured that these numbers are low. Will she have her spleen removed at some point? Is that the only place she has lesions?

Mine zoomed up to 4000+ only 2 months after 3rd line treatment so now on cisplatin and etoposide tablets ( given fast track on the Rotterdam regime). Something is happening as it is now 1300.

In 5 weeks I have lost 5 kg and on discussion the onc yesterday prescribed me megace 160 mg. 2x daily for helping me gain weight.

However I have just read all the contraindications ( of which a very common one is increased blood sugar ( therefore like a diabetic type 2 need metformin to counteract?)

The common side effects documented for this medication very much match what is going on with me now so in retrospect I think I would rather be a bit underweight rather than risk doubling the bad symptoms.

What is the main reason your mum is taking megace is what I want to ask...?

Wishing her and you all the best.

I know anything below 35 is normal. But for my mum ca 125 was 11 when symptoms for brain mets started to appear. It was 74 before surgery. Since july 13 ca 125 never rise above 4. That's why continuous rise get us alarmed.

Megace was prescribed for keeping disease stable to prolong chemo as far as we can and gain weight as a side effect as said by the oncologist. My mum has lost 4kg in 2 3 months which can be a manifestation of increased sugar level so even if she gain weight with megace seems nothing bad!
