Specialist referral declined

So today I get a phone call from my GP to say the specialist has declined my referral. I needed more blood tests done - different tumour markers, which means more time waiting. In the meantime I contacted a friend of mine who I previously worked with and have managed to get my CT scan organised for tomorrow. I also got to look at my USS report. I have had pretty bad lower back pain today as well - it feels like it did when I twinged my back at work several months ago. Hurts to walk, bend over, sit down. I kind of wonder if this pain may be my new norm. It makes me wonder what the heck is going on inside me and if the pains have anything to do with Melon. Need to find me a symptom diary.

Hi

I read this as the specialist has deferred rather than declined. S/he needs more information in order to make the referral worthwhile. It seems to me that they are thorough in wanting to give you the best opinion that they can. Rather this than have an appointment where they cannot give an opinion due to lack of relavent information.

Hope after your extra tests you get your second opinion. I know more time but hopefully a better outcomes.

Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Fay

Hi, Fay has nailed this I think, it’s always best to have all the required information so an accurate diagnosis can be given. I know this is a worrying time for you but you really do need to know just what melon is before a proper plan of action can be formulated. Let us know once you have all the info and remember we are all here for you. ❤️Xx Jane

HI, Fay has given you good advice once you have the information the specialist needs she can then make a educated call on your condition and treatment plain, keep your chine up and hope this is all sorted out very soon..Take care Lorraine xx

Fay nailed it. Try and get copies of reports if you can.

All other blood tests are back (my GP won’t see them till Monday, I checked the DHB website at work) everything is within normal ranges. CT report is still pending. So I am very hopeful. Talked with a Dr. Friend and he said that it doesn’t mean that Melon is not malignant. So again - hopeful but still no definitive answers. I continue to have pain in my R) hip and tailbone. Am on nightshift as I write this and struggling to stay awake, the pain is kind of helping me stay awake. Have told another colleague about my Melon situation (that takes it to a whopping 4 now). I am yet to tell my siblings living overseas and didn’t want to worry/concern them until I have some definitive answers. My 17 y/o son bawled when I tol him about Melon - I had to calm him down and tell him that it could just be benign and not to worry. My younger ones (12 & 9) weren’t really sure what it meant and pretty much mirrored my emotions when I told them (which was very controlled and matter of fact), that’s when we decided to call him Melon. I don’t know why Melon happens to be a “him”, I guess it just felt right at the time. Anyway - hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected with the various stages everyone is at. Everyone is so great on here - what a blessing to have each of you sharing your lived experiences! Love and light xx

I didn’t have bloods before seeing a specialist. I was sent for a ultrasound for a torn muscle by male doctor. Ultrasound tech told me I would need to be referred. Doctors the next day. Immediate referral under the two week suspected cancer protocol. Specialist organised all bloods and ct. Are you in the uk?

This is likely because of the make-up of my cysts and maybe a good sign that yours look more normal!
