I am new to Ovacome, this is my first posting. I have just completed treatment for stage 3c high grade serous carcinoma at the Royal Marsden, my oncology doctors, surgeon and nurses have all been truly wonderful and a great support throughout the gruelling treatment. (I had a radical hysterectomy in 2012) Ive had the standard treatment carbo/taxol with debulking surgery after 3rd chemo cycle then 3 more cycles following surgery.
My CA125 marker is 16, there is no sign of disease or spread following my CT scan. The doctor yesterday assured me that I am in the best possible position. I am now on 3 monthly surveillance appointments.
This as been the hardest challenge I've ever been faced with and hoping I can get fit again and keep occupied. Onwards and upwards from now.
I am in a very similar optimistic space as you are. Just finished the same treatment, but in Bath, at the RUH, where I had wonderful care throughout.
So now I have to figure out how to recover my strength.
These seem to be uncharted waters, as everyone's experience, from their particular manefestation of the disease, to their physical response to treatment.
I feel as though I am coming back from a very long distance. Been mostly in bed through this 7 month ordeal (it seemed like such a long time at the start of treatment, but it flew by) and now I must set myself numerous little tasks to get me up and around, without knocking me back.
Congratulations and good luck on your journey through recovery.
Hi, Lindaura. Small steps. You will get there. I thought I would never be able to get up again. I did. Slowly. Every single day gets better and better. I promise. Take care of yourself and stay well.
My GP's advice to tackle this 'hardest challenge' was to focus my attention on "growing healthy cells". He said this meant eating small, healthy regular 'meals' (a dietician helped me work out how to maximise nutritional punch in small quantities of foods I enjoyed and my tummy could cope with), exercising well and resting well. So, what exercise do you enjoy? Walking, swimming, running, on a bike?? Just do a bit everyday and notice the trend ...if it is easy to do more, your body is benefitting....if not think agai and try something different. Can you join in with others...does this help the enjoyment....or are you happier on your own? Resting well was the hardest part, for me, of his advice to 'crack'...thought about what enjoyable things I could do whilst sitting with my feet up...skye with a friend, catch up on radio/tv programmes, read, craft hobbies, reading, doing parts of my self employment work (when possible) with my feet up and I also did an online learning course. After a couple of years of practice it now feels a normal part of life.
Some people on this site are superb at 'fighting' but I came to accept I'm not....but I do enjoy growing healthy and happy days which hopefully convert into healthy and happy cells!
Dearest Hubbardsmith...sounds like you came through with flying colors! So happy for you.
You will not only get fit again, but, you may even feel stronger. Wakes us up to our bodies and minds. I have never felt stronger in my life.
You will find so much love and support on this site. I had a major question answered and it changed me overnight. Just stay ahead of everything with your visits and you will be fine!!!!
Hi Hubbard smith, that’s great news, thank you for posting, I am just diagnosed and about to start treatment so to hear that such a positive story is a great boost! Good luck with getting back to fitness and enjoying life xxx
