Skiing here I come ⛷!

Well, I am delighted to tell you all that I have been given the all clear to go on my skiing holiday. I’ve seen the consultant today - my CA125 has gone down to 283 from 290 (could small, but regular doses of Ibuprofen have helped here?). She is happy to pronounce me fit to travel, and although she reiterated that my cancer isn’t curable, she also reminded me that it isn’t terminal either.

The last time I saw her I asked if there was any progression in the microscopic disease in my Peritoneal cavity. She asked the radiologists to review my scan from November 2016 next to my most recent scan and there is only minuscule growth (3mm) in the disease on my diaphragm. Sounds like good news to me, although I know things can change quickly.

Anyway, for the meantime, I am delighted to be off on my holidays, and would like to thank everyone here for the support you’ve given me while I’ve been worrying and for Travel Insurance advice (I eventually went with Eurotunnel, £98:50 for annual travel for Tom and I, Europe only, ski cover included, no medical declaration and only needed the ok from the consultant!)

I hope everyone is as well as they can be, I think about you all a lot, willing you all to find your best path through this monster of a disease.

With my love, Ali x

Ali, that's brilliant news - although why anyone would want to go wallow in the snow defeats me. I'm flipping freezing, wrapped up in layers of clothes and sat by the radiator. But, as we are so similar (ie not curable, similar cancer etc etc) it's lovely to hear that you have been told "not terminal". A few months ago I thought I wouldn't see the next day, let alone Christmas or 2018. And here we are :-)

Are you taking the knitting? I've been asked by a friend at art and craft group today for the pattern. The world will be inundated with multi coloured Rastafarian scarf people by the end of the year. Bring it on.

Have a wonderful holiday.

Love and hugs

Apparently it’s going to snow here next week, so I figure I may as well be in the snow but with friends, mountains, apres ski, good food and wine and no housework!!

As you say, last year I didn’t think I’d make my skiing holiday or anything else, so I’m starting to look on some of this as a bonus!!

Not taking knitting as I think the needles are prohibited on the flight! A good book will have to do.

Maybe the scarf could be the new OC indicator - if you see someone wearing it you know that they have some connection. That could, of course, go terribly wrong!!

Stay well Ali xx

Have a great time Ali. Go careful down those slopes 🎿🎿 😊

Woohoo!! Have a fabulous time!!

I’ve been doing the pre-work on booking my big trip to Orlando - travel insurance quoted, ESTAs applied for and approved, car hire quoted, both schools spoken to about taking the kids out for a week and they are both OK in principle (phew!). Just need to book flights and accommodation now 😁

‘See’ you when you get back 😉 (Unless you post telling us what a wonderful time you are having!)

I shall reply when I’m back - I may even post a photo! Not sure how good WiFi will be!

I’m pleased your children’s schools have agreed in principle. When I was a teacher I had a real problem with schools not letting their children have time out particularly when circumstances were difficult for the family. Sadly the government expects all families and children to be the same, which they’re not. I understand about attendance, but compassion is always much more important. I used to get in trouble for saying so, but always felt very strongly about it. Rant over.

When are you going?

Easter holidays, and first week back after Easter (mid-April). I'm tied to the dates because of Avastin, so there isn't much I can do. It's really not a decision I take lightly, but both children have had almost perfect attendance all year, and I'm sure that 5 days is hardly going to have a significant impact on their overall school performance.

Exactly. I bet you'll have a great time.

Hi. That is good news. I ended up getting insurance with world first. It was £170 for annual cover for me and my husband Lawrence with winter sports and cover for ovarian cancer. So we will be hitting the slopes of la plagne on 10th March. I finished my last chemo on Thursday so it will just be over 4 months since my high grade 3 c was diagnosed.i think I have recovered from surgery in October quite well. My ca125 was 5 on Thursday and I had a clear scan after my 3 rd chemo so they will do a pet ct 2 days before my skiing trip. Can’t wait to get away as i haven’t been able to travel too far whilst undergoing chemo. Enjoy your skiing!

We didn’t go to La Plagne, but spent time in La Rosiere and Val Thorens over the last few years. We have gravitated to Italy for the last three years, mainly because two of our party have been learning Italian and wanted to practice!

Good luck with your results and enjoy your holiday too!
