My Hickman cvc port line alien...

This is my variation which I have had 5 months now .. tunnelled under local anaesthetic through the jugular vein from an incision in the neck ( healed and not visible now ) then on the other thread an exit in the chest on the left with tubing and decorative tape ( think I need some new today!!) as it has to hold it in a loop. Decision is which side of the boob I want it to lie 😆. Whichever way it is quite visible so def no low tops for me...

However it works well and has saved my poor hand veins . Now treatment is finished - hopefully for as long as possible - things to do, places to visit, friends to go out with etc etc... time, i am keeping it but just have to commit to a weekly 'flushing' at my local surgery so nothing bungs up...

Anyone else got one of these fetching devices? I haven't come across many in the hospital even...

Wow! Thanks for posting Janet. It obviously serves the same purpose as the port but I can see now why swimming would be difficult.

Take care now with your nails.

All the best, helen

Now that's another ugly story. I DID wear the burgundy polish over Christmas but maybe regretting it now. Taking it off with the remover, started a dissolving of nails which left the strangest scalloped pattern across the top of my nails between the ridges of which I am prone to .. now turning a sickly shade of yellow orange... how on earth can I protect my nails from catching? Already happened twice this morning on the thumb....

Ouch! How about some very thin lace gloves? If you had several pairs, you wouldn't mind getting them wet or dirty. One of the daughters was wearing something similar in Little Women.

I went for a portacath as I did not want a tube dangling from my chest or arm

I'm sorry, Janet, but your device did make me wince a bit. You're a brave soldier to put up with that 24/7.

Lots of love Kryssy xxx

Hi Janet,

Thanks for the picture. I've never seen a hickman port line, so quite a learning experience for myself! I am rather curious, do you know why your team picked this device rather than a power port (or was it your decision in the end)?

Happy New Year,

Kris x.

It was a decision made for me . At the time I was just desperate to get a port but don't think I was aware of them all or the how they all worked... maybe it's just Christie's that favours them, or the staff trained. In other words i was told it was the best option for me and I didn't question... x
