Hi there always invest in appropriate travel insurance that covers medical conditions. I usually go to moneysavingexpert to see a whole list of specialised insurers. I’m a very keen traveller. I found a massive rise in my annual renewal so I changed to insuring each trip it worked out cheaper than taking out worldwide annual insurance. Hope my advice helps!

Hi. I would advise you to shop around, as there is a huge discrepancy between insurers. I used insurewith this year and found it very reasonable, even with cancer and high BP. Mia are worth trying too and Boots and tunnel insurance.

Eurotunnel - as long as your doctor says you are fit to travel you won't have a lengthy health screening telephone conversation, and they will cover you even with cancer.

We use MIA travel for European holidays, they are pretty reasonable. I think we used InsurePink (or similar) for our trip to the US. Enjoy your trip! X

I used Boots - I declared everything including my bunions and they were very reasonable - actually cheaper than the extra I paid on top of my bank account insurance after I declared my asthma before I had cancer!

Hi, I have used ‘insurewith’ twice now to travel to America. They are not overly expensive and they ask disease pertinent questions so you are fully covered. Good luck and happy holidays ❤️Xx Jane

Hi there 😎😎

Do your research in detail. I went through this in March and had widely varying quotes, up to £1500 per year.

Check out the underwriters. Many companies are backed by the same underwriter but prices are massively different Mia eventually declined cover for USA.

I ended up with worldwide ANNUAL cover inc USA for £130. Cheaper than Mia had previously quoted for a single trip!

Increasing your excess can bring your premiums down. I have a £550 excess for any claim related to declared medical conditions, but so far have used it to travel to Florida, Cyprus, Venice and Vegas without incident and have two further trips booked. So 90 days cover for £130 was a great result.

Happy travels

Hi. There are specialist travel insurance providers - some of which are prohibitively expensive, so shop around. I've bought insurance for a trip to France next week from Insure With, which covers all my medical conditions and was very reasonable. The medical screening process was much longer and more thorough than other companies I'd tried and couldn't be completed online, but the girl I spoke to on the phone made it straightforward - she was understanding and empathetic, and I know what it takes to be a really good call centre operative as I work in insurance. This will be my first trip abroad since my surgery, getting my stoma, and chemotherapy and the longest I've been away from home since being in hospital, so I'm a little nervous but excited too. Hope you enjoy any trips you want to go on.

Hi...I've used Boots too, I always end up taking this out over the phone rather than on line to clarify some of the answers as they do ask quite a number of questions around your illness. Always found them very nice and premium is reasonable taking account of my medical issues. However if I had to claim for a declared medical condition then a higher excess applies (£250), this is also applied to the other 3 family members so really hoping I don't have to cancel!!! Insurewith I found very nice and helpful too, in fact the questions seemed virtually the same. Just went with Boots in the end as was more familiar with the name! Good luck and have a good holiday!!

I have recommended many times on here - use them all the time. Very experienced in pre existing medical conditions including cancer. MIA travel insurance and you can find their details on line and very sensible prices.

We can't get insurance to cover OC in Canada. My oncologist encourages me to go away for my mental health and always tells me it is unlikely anything is going to happen in a one or two week period related to my OC. I've had some fabulous holidays over the last year as a result. Kim xx

This post came up at a great time for me as I was just about to try to book travel insurance for a trip to Tenerife. Insurewith refused insurance when I said I'd be having surgery in a few months time. I got a £114 quote from MIA and then one from Boots at £81 so went with them. The lady who dealt with me was great and I felt empathy from her as she'd had cancer herself. I also have a Boots Advantage Card which means I get 4 points for every £1 spent. Win win! Both quotes were for single trip only as they wouldn't do multi trip cover. As I'm only going for 10 days I did consider not taking out any insurance but it is probably too much of a risk and could end up being far more costly to me.

Thanks for the information and advice ladies! 😎

Thank you for your advice. Boots sound best I think. Best wishes Anthea

I’ve used MIA for a number of trips to Europe and once to the Caribbean and have recommended them on here as reasonably priced. They pay a lot of attention to what the medical facilities are where you’re going.

So I was disappointed when they wouldn’t cover me for the trip I am currently on. The issue for them wasn’t Australia, which is the bulk of the trip, but the breaks on the way in Singapore and Bangkok.

I went to Insurewith and agree with the other remarks about medically pertinent health questionnaire. I also liked the approach of a reasonable basic premium with a heftyish excess if you claim for anything cancer related.

This seems to respect the fact we wouldn’t be travelling unless cancer wasn’t uppermost in our minds. I’ve got a fit to travel letter from my onc. I suspect the cost was slightly lower than MIA too. I’ll be going to them first in future.

But, I was slightly taken aback when my old man who is only a year older than me got charged almost as much as me even with no medical issues....I’d never considered age bands before but this is just another complication in life!

One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to insurance so I hope this helps find a way though the thicket!

And greetings to you all from Melbourne. Xx
