Not so good news

Dear Warriors, thank you for the best wishes for Gauri's first annual Bloods and Pet CT, post her last chemo in May 2016. Unfortunately, the findings have not been good, although we were expecting a smooth sail looking at her overall health and stamina. We have been jolt hit by rough waters , as her CA 125 read as 48 and the Pet CT revealed a 1.5 cm small lesion inside her liver. Her previous CA 125 value was 15.5 in March 2017 and no anomoly found in the USG either. She has been advised another surgery to remove this lesion and the onco surgeon is of opinion that having reopened the abdomen, he will do a thorough real time physical search for any other such. He does not want to leave anything to chance and allow it to grow. She is a brave woman and is chin up, although I must confess that I am completely rattled with the news. I can now understand and empathise even more with all you lovely ladies. I will Keep the Faith. God Bless you all.

Ah Namish 😕 So on the one hand, not the good news you were hoping for, but on the other, her surgeon believes he can operate and will check for anything else. That's the good news part of not great news. Hopefully he can capture it all, and she will soon return to good health again.

Thinking of you both.

Thank you so much Yoshbosh. Hoping it's a local thing in the liver and no more .

Hey Naimish,

I am very sorry to hear this and that poor Gauri has to go through another surgery however on the basis of all of the comments on this site it is a good thing that they are able and willing to do surgery so hopefully the surgery will be very successful and she will be on the road to recovery again in quick time!

Take Care and all the best to Gauri!

Thank you Dx. We have posted the surgery for 9th Aug as we have committed travel plans in the first week of Aug. I will pass on your best wishes to her.

Not the best news but not awful. The CA is still quite low. Will they do a liver biopsy first to confirm that it is a cancerous growth?

It sounds as if you are both doing really well best wishes

Yes and No Lily Anne. We were not expecting this . I too suggested a laproscopic biopsy before cutting her open again, or a robotic controlled surgery for minimal blood loss and faster recovery. The onco surgeon (THE BOSS), was very clear in his mind that we will open up the abdomen to clear the lesion and take a real time fresh look inside, so as to eliminate all doubts. We were doing really well until this news hit us.

My disease has recurred in the liver my oncologist is treating it with chemo. However I went for a second opinion two weeks ago and one of the things she said was that she wouldn't confirm it as a cancerous growth without a biopsy. I had a pet ct which lit up my liver but with a low suv

If you are not happy with their suggestion I would take a second opinion

Sorry to read this Naimish but it sounds promising that a second operation is possible. That Gauri's overall health is good should make recovery easier. Thinking of you both at his difficult time.

Thank you January, and yes her overall health being very good is certainly a huge plus point in aiding her recovery. Praying that the lesion is all there is and no more and chemo will not be necessary.

Naimish, it's so hard to deal with these downturns. I find time and a good treatment plan helps. As others have said, hopefully the news is not all bad as the surgeon is willing to operate. Also as the recurrence is more than 6 months after frontline it probably means Gauri is not platinum resistant which gives more options later.

It tears me up to see the pain and worry that my husband and family go through with this and I really feel for you and Gauri

Sending very best wishes for the best possible outcome

Thank you so much Dee. Her first op went off w/o any hitch. It was the chemo that devastated her although she is not platinum resistant.

Hi Naimish, Sorry Gaurl has to go through all this but I think her surgeon seems to be on top of it, I know surgery is scary but if the surgeon feels that he can cut the beast out great, I had my first surgery over 2 years ago I'm on my 4th line treatment, I asked my oncologist if I could see about more surgery I'm seeing a surgeon on Monday. I think it's good your surgeon wants to go in and cut it out, Give Gaurl my best wishes and so good she has your support..Lorraine💙

Sounds as though your onco surgeon is really good and thorough and that there is a good plan of action. Lots of positives here even if not what you were expecting. Wishing for a speedy and successful op for Gauri, best wishes, Wendy

Hi Naimish

I know it must be so disappointing for you and Gauri to hear this now , and especially as she feels so fit and healthy. The upside to this is your surgeon is on the ball and has a definite plan. Your wife is so lucky that she has you to explore the various options with her team. She couldn't have a better advocate than you. I can only offer you my prayers and good wishes.

Thank you so so so much Molly. Health issues other than the Big C, throw up far more alternates, but for the Big C, surgery and chemo, are the only available option

Hi Namish

It is all said before in other posts but if it were me, I would also forge ahead with the surgery because I would want the second look. There are many articles I read about second looks--which it seems is what the good doctor is doing--and the positive outcomes from them. Wishing you a great holiday and think of ways NOT to think about what comes after while away (easier said than done!) Thinking of you both and good wishes for great results.

Naimish in reply toMaxjor

Dear Maxjor, I am rather surprised that surgery seems to be the single common denominator here, although I am not too sure. Btw, Gauri is brave enough for the surgery but dreads the chemo which, God Forbid, may follow. Thank you for your prayers.

Sending good wishes and a smooth recovery for Gauri. It seems surgery to get it out is the positive part of this and once again she will be cancer free. Lots of love to you both.

So sorry Naimish that Gauri needs more surgery. I expect her consultant expects success so hold on to that thought, Wishing you both the best and sending kind thoughts to you both. Enjoy the trip you planned meantime

Thanks Joan. It's come as a shocker and Gauri is trying her best to come to grips with it praying that this may not need chemo. Reality bites

Thank you so very much Luchie. Gauri needs the prayers. She has gone into a shell since morning and is in a very disturbed phase since she is convinced that there may be more than meets the eye on the CT scan. It's easy for me to tell her to think positive but I know it's not one bit easy. Hoping for the best .
