10,000 steps a day challenge Cancer Research UK

Just thought I'd tell you all about my 10,000 steps a day challenge!

I signed up in a moment of madness the day before my debulking surgery on 8th Jan as I was so worried about losing my strength & fitness having been a pretty keen gym bunny pre-diagnosis. I had tried to get to the gym whilst on chemo but knew this would have to take a back seat post-op, & I'm not the biggest fan of walking so thought this challenge would encourage & spur me on!

So from today I have pledged to walk 10,000 steps a day to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Had I realised at the time that March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month I may have chosen differently, but it's still a great cause, & so far my lovely family & friends have very generously donated over Β£1500 already (& that's without the additional gift aid!)

I'm slightly scared as I'm still undergoing weekly chemo so this will be a proper challenge, but I have made everyone aware that I may not complete all 310,000 steps in March, but that I'll keep going until I do, by which time, with any luck, my weekly chemo will end, & I'll start to get back to the gym? πŸ™πŸΌ

Anyway, just wanted to share that with everyone, & say I hope you're all feeling as well as can be at the moment. I love this forum, & it's been a Godsend at times when I would previously have felt quite alone. Thank you xxx

PS if anyone is interested I try & post daily on my Facebook page re updates. Link in my profile x

Hi Sarah, that's amazing!!! Not only to walk that many steps but also to gather that much money.

I struggle to walk to my local shops & back to be able to walk 10,000 a day or even think you can after all you have been through is wounderfull!!! Take care of your self please don't over do it because that very easy to do but your frame of mind is very postive & I love it. I just wish I was a more positive person like you. Take care Cindyxx

Have reduced my daily challenge to a much more realistic 3-5000 steps a day as I overdid it by trying the 10,000 straight off! Doh!

However no proper regrets as at least I know my limits a bit better now xxx
