Hi ladies-

I have my debulking surgery Tuesday morning. Any tips for recovery or overall? Thanks and sending everyone positive vibes. Stay Strong!

Good luck for Tuesday. There are so many tips, but here are a few of mine:

In hospital - take eye mask and ear plugs for when you want to sleep, peppermint tea helps to soothe trapped wind (take your own in), ask for laxative/stool softners as soon as you feel like you might need help, take pain killers and ask for more/stronger if you need to (no points for being a hero!), you might find a nightie more comfortable than pjs for a while (I bought some cheap ones in Primark because I'm a pjs girl).

Generally - hold a pillow over your tummy when you cough, sneeze, puke or poo - it reeeeeally helps! Drink lots of water to keep everything moving. Try to get up and about as soon as you can (in hospital, they will try to boot you out of bed as soon as they can, even if it is just to sit on a chair whilst they change the sheets).

At home - do *nothing* - rest! See if friends can bring you some meals or help with the housework when they visit. I didn't cook for 2 weeks and one friend organised a cleaner for me!

Thinking of you.

Good luck. Just get moving as soon as you can for a few minutes. I found even getting out and walking round the bed helped with pain from wind x

Hi Angela. I'm back from our trip. We had a great time and I was thinking about you!!! Sending BIG hugs and positive vibes from Jersey. My best advice is keep moving!!! Get up as soon as they allow you too and shuffle the hallways!!! The sooner you move the better you will do!! LIMIT the amount of opiates you take. If you have a great pain tolerance that will help you tremendously. Most of all, think of your beautiful baby. She alone will give you incredible strength and determination to recover!!! I will be waiting to hear!!! Keeping you and your family in my daily Prayers!!! Stay strong girl.... XOXO Nancy

Hi Ange

Amazing to think that my op was a year ago this week!

It is important to do what you're told by the hospital but also do go with how you feel. I was amazed at how little it hurt but that's not everyone's experience.

If you need to rest you rest...if you need to get up and boogie..do it very very carefully and stop when you are tired best of luck! XxxLyndall

Hi Ange. All the other ladies have given good advice. A tip for the journey home, lay a pillow over your tummy before you fasten seatbelt, I found that helped. Wishing you all the best for your op. Kathy xxx

Thanks!

Good luck with surgery and best wishes, drink plenty of water, the pillow across your tummy really does help, moving around slowly is good but don't over do it. Take care and let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it.

The other ladies have given some really good suggestions. I just wanted to add that in my case, I don't remember the pain as being very bad. I hope that's your experience too. You're going to an excellent hospital with a great team. I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers for a wonderful outcome!!

Hugs to you and your precious baby!

Don't forget to take all the necessary chargers for your phone, iPad, Kindle, etc. etc. Noise cancelling ear phones are good if you have them. Wet wipes are useful and a small mirror for those first few days when you cannot get to the bathroom but still want to put your makeup on!

Good luck!

Hi Ang, I am sending you so much love. The best thing to do is rest. They may try to force you up and walking in hospital. My advice is that if you don't feel ready, don't. Tell them if you are not ready. You may need confidence. Resting is the best thing you can do and not to be tempted to lift anything heavy when you get home. Morphine or opiates can at times make you feel groggy and sometimes a bit sick. If this is the case, but you might be fine, just ask for another pain relief as there are others that I found just as good. I found the main thing was trying to sleep in hospital but ladies above haven given good advice. Crosswords and things to read are good and I found that there were other people on the ward I could talk to a bit for company. Your body and recovery will amaze you when you get home and day by day you will feel better. Sending you stacks of luck and love xxxx
